Some people like to be engaged for 10 years. Some like to be engaged for 3 months. Some like to be engaged for just a few days.
What did you do?

Lived together about two years, then engaged about 18 months. It just kind of ran together, and nothing changed much from the first couple of weeks we were together.
By the way, we have been married now over 11 years, and still very happy.

365 days.
The anniversary of our first date is October 29th. That was the date we got officially engaged. And that day was available when we booked our wedding location so we just did it all on the same day. We didn't set out for that day, but figured it was as good as any other. Makes it easier to remember, thats for sure.

About 15 months. I wanted it to be shorter, but my wife and mother-in-law wanted a summer wedding and 3 months wasn't enough time to plan the extravaganza they wanted.
We're celebrating our 11th anniversary this summer.

My wife and I were engaged for 5 months before we broke up. 3 weeks later, we were engaged again, and got married in 8 months on April 7, 2006. We never lived together, and for all but the last 3 weeks of our (second) engagement, we lived 2 hours apart. I told this to a lady that cut my hair a few weeks ago, and she almost freaked.
So, almost 2 years of marriage for the Jawbone...
And yes, those are my dead sexy Rob Bell-esque glasses.

Depends on whether you ask me or her. I think it was about 8 months, she'll say something more like 4. It's all about when she realized that she really was as serious about me as I was about her. Romance is lovely.

I dated my wife for 5 years before we got engaged December 2006. We got married in June 2007.
We chose the dates based on when I was in classes and those were times after finals were over.

About 2 years, more or less. No ring for most of that time, so it doesn't really count (I was in grad school).

so I shouldn't mention that the 5 years of dating was that long because our parents each wanted us to graduate college before they would pay for the wedding?
oops, too late.
it isn't impossible to have romance and account for practical circumstances at the same time. well, that's what I keep telling myself since I'm still in school.

I met my wife on Dec. 19, 1971. I proposed on Feb 18, 1972. We got married on June 24, 1972. We split up on June 19, 1992, and our divorce was final on May 13, 1993.

About 6 months. However, I was in Hawaii, and she was in NY.
So we probably only had about 4 weeks of total contact time (in person, at least).
15 years thus far...

No. I waited until 35 to get married, and I'm sure that extra bit of maturity has help my marriage and parenthood a good deal. I had a couple earlier opportunities, and I'm sooooo glad I waited for Mrs. design219.

I would never have gotten married the first time. Too young, too stupid. But she was young, rich and hot.

We dated for about 2 years. Somewhere in that time we decided to get married. Not sure when/if a formal "engagement" occurred.
Been married 27 years.
Unlike many people, we waited a good 7 or 8 years before we started having kids. That was a good move, imho.

No - she wasn't white trash, and unlike Britney she actually had a brain.
Wait a sec - you think Britney is hot?!?

True on the body, but the face never worked for me either.
She needs makeup to look good. I prefer au naturale beauty.

Yeah, the eye needs to move over a bit. Hmmm. That's not apparent in the black and white image.

Let's see ... I met my then-future wife in April of 1996. We got engaged November of that year and married the following May. So I think that makes it six months. From my perspective, it was just the enough time to plan the wedding (from out-of-state).
Our engagement was really fun! Very romantic, lots of laughter. I enjoyed getting to know my in-laws, etc. Definitely a period in life that I recall fondly.
