I have stains around the screen and keyboard (not key/trackpad).
What should I use to clean? Liquids? Powders?

Magic Erasers are brilliant at removing the stains from iBooks and MacBooks.

I second the magic eraser for stains.
I also wipe my white macbook down once every 1-2 weeks with a lysol wipe both for my health (college campus with a weak immune system) and too keep it looking brand spankin' new.

Haven't tried the "Magic Eraser" method yet, but I will have to sometime soon. I'm getting pretty dirty over here. So far I've only used iKlear and it comes out Klean =]

Keep in mind that the first-generation MacBook had a defect which made its case get stained like you described. With mine and others, Apple was replacing the case even if the MB was out of warranty.

Magic Eraser works great on my MacBook (Nov. 2007); however, my sister has a late 2006 MacBook and stains will NOT come off using ANYTHING. Granted, the stains on her palm rests come from her insistence on Scotch®-taping Post-It® notes there for almost 2 years...and the Magic Eraser/the like will not take the darkened areas around where the tape/notes were stuck off at all.
So my "advice" is probably obvious to most, but don't tape or stick anything...well, "sticky" to the MacBook palm-rest area, and know that the Magic Eraser will take off virtually any stain.
