Would you rather be poor in 2008 or rich in 1908?

Well, poor in 2008 still means a car and cable TV, so I'd go with that option.

modern conveniences + tv + internet + modern medicine + better food + birth control = poor in 2008
Although how poor and how rich might have some impact. Are we poor in an industrialized nation or are we living in a metal shack in South America? How rich? Billionaire rich? Jet around the world on a whim rich? If you could be doing something really important and groundbreaking in 1908 with your wealth then maybe.
What about middle class in the 50s? Split the difference.

Another vote for poor in 2008. Does anyone really know just how *bad* it could be living in 1908? Even if you were really rich you could die from some disease that is easily preventable today. Plus, the convenience factor of living today has got to be better than in 1908.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

When I had my tonsils removed (at age 25) my doctor lightly mentioned that a hundred years ago that this would probably have killed me.
Yeah, so I'll stick with the present.

Um, you'd still be in the same location you're posting from now, be it New York City or the middle of the Amazon. And you would be the standard example of "rich" or "poor" for the respective time period.
In addition to what's already been said, commercial refrigerators apparently weren't available until 1911.

So do we wake up tomorrow morning suddenly in a different situation, or are we choosing whether or not we spend our whole life that way? Because if I woke up tomorrow morning in 1908, I could build myself a refrigerator.

That's a good question. For starters, think of the smell. 100 years ago, most people took a bath once a week, if that often. Summers were funky, especially in urban areas.
Then again, personal freedom was much higher than it is today. Then again, dental care...
Decisions, decisions.

Well, if we're both billionaires in 1908, we could kick back with some ice cold drinks, cruise for chicks in our Model Ts, and take comfort in the stocks we'll accumulate until October 27th, 1929, then promptly sell.

Rich in 1908 now that I reflect on it.
But seriously rich, like Kings and Governments ask you for advice rich if you know what I mean.

The latter. There is no time travel in this game.

It's the same month but a different year. You'll have to wait at least 6 more weeks for a Model T. You can have a Model A though.

Poor now. You can be rich in any period and still be a miserable wretch.
Forget the early 1900s; poor today is practically as good as rich in the 1970s. Who would know what to do with caviar and football teams anyway.

- Blues become a standard feature of honky tonks and dancehalls. Horn players imitate the human voice with mutes and growls.
- New Orleans players are playing a mix of Blues, Ragtime, brass band music, marches, Pop songs and dances. The Jazz stew is brewing. Some musicians are beginning to improvise the Pop songs.
The end of the Spanish-American war has brought a surplus of used military band instruments into the port of New Orleans.
- Jelly Roll Morton is a youth working the "high class sporting houses" or more bluntly, brothels, as a Ragtime piano player. His wages come from tips from wealthy patrons.

I guess I would have to say 2008. I doubt I would have survived my acute appendix 100 years ago. I would also be limping around without an ACL, and blind as a bat without the laser eye surgery. Basically I have decided that 100 years ago I would have been coyote meat. What good is lots of money when you do not live long enough to spend it or give it to you offspring?
Plus I could never give up skiing. Yea they had something that resembled it but not exactly the same thing. Plus a lot of other activites that make life fun.
And one more thing, since it is my anniversary, I would not have my beautiful wife.

I'd dearly love to live in that era.
Crowley, Mathers, Fortune, Waite, Yeats, Bennette, etc.. Would be fun to change the course of religion and spiritualism.
