Sometimes my system wakes from sleep at precisely 2AM in the morning and I just can't figure out why. This happens a couple of times a month.

I don't understand console logs but maybe someone else does:

Code:
02/08/08 02.00.00 rcd[2833] *** _NSAutoreleaseNoPool(): Object 0x12fee0 of class NSConcreteMapTableValueEnumerator autoreleased with no pool in place - just leaking Stack: (0x912fbcdf 0x91208562 0x912aaa6c 0x9680b393 0x9571f7f0 0x90e5d7fb 0x90e5d8ee 0x90e58635 0x90e7c908 0x90e7cd54 0x3b01) 02/08/08 02.00.01 SystemUIServer[132] exception while performing selector syncPlanWithIdentifier: on server: NSPortTimeoutException connection timeout: did not receive reply 02/08/08 02.00.19 com.apple.launchd[92] ([0x0-0x207207].dotmacsyncclient[2963]) Exited with exit code: 1 02/08/08 02.00.21 com.apple.backupd[2956] Found partially deleted backup - trying again to delete: 2008-07-31-233043 02/08/08 02.01.06 dotmacsyncclient[2941] PROPFIND /Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Schemas/com.smileonmymac.TextExpander/00000.clog (FAILED), httpStatusCode:-1, errorType:105 (domain=AYErrorDomain, code=2), transactionState:5, txnId:556521EB-3009-4974-9E04-39D0D8FBBBED, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0 02/08/08 02.01.08 dotmacsyncclient[2941] UNLOCK /Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Schemas/com.smileonmymac.TextExpander/ (FAILED), httpStatusCode:-1, errorType:100 (domain=DMGeneralErrorDomain, code=100), transactionState:5, txnId:85B8CFC0-F165-453E-8346-D9B31CA82F29, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0
I would appreciate any help - It's quite annoying especially considering the time of day it wakes up.
Thanks

Yeah I also wondererd if it was those cron-jobs running, remembering they always run at night but the time doesn't match and they shouldn't wake the mac if it's sleeping according to your link.

And it's not an iCal alarm I've set.

Thanks anyway

You need to find out what the rcd process is, as that is the first one listed there and it could indicate what the issue is (though that isn't guaranteed).

The maintenance routines will not wake your Mac to run and they never have done (and since Tiger they have been designed to run at the next available opportunity if your Mac was asleep when they were meant to run). The problem lies elsewhere.

Fwiw, if anyone could explain why none of my Macs ever goes to sleep anymore (since Leopard) unless I do it by hand or schedule it...

I don't know what rcd is. I've tried googling it and the only thing I found was a thread on Macrumors - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=194551 - saying it was a process used by Front Row which doesn't make sense to me. Why would Front Row start acting up at 2AM all by itself.

I have now turned off the Wake for network access thing in the system preferences. We'll see if that works.

Thanks

Happened again tonight. This time it seems like it was Quicksilver that woke my iMac.
This sure doesn't make it easier to fix.

It tends to happen to my iMac from time to time.. Mostly around 1 AM.
Still haven't figured out the cause. Probably our instable electricity. Apparantly our house is located at the end of a powerline which causes instability. We have tons of lightbulbs that used to pop frequently. That doesn't happen anymore since almost all of our lights have been replaced by CFLs.

Check here...

Apparently it's a Leopard bug that wakes the iMac at 0.00 UTC time under certain circumstances.

A temporary fix until Apple wakes up is to set a wake up under Schedule in the System Preferences.
For example a wake up at monday evening at 6PM or some other time where you probably already are working on your Mac.

I haven't tried this myself yet, but will as soon as I get home.

I have been trying to work out what was making my MacPro wake in the middle of the night for weeks. I thought it was my UPS. I had manufacturer software installed as well as the new Apple drivers. For the last couple of nights I have disconnected it and it hasn't woken up in the early hours. Now I find that it is a known bug.

I don't recall so many "known bugs" affecting me on any of the earlier versions of OS X. I hope they get round to fixing a few of them in the next update. It seems as if all of my ongoing annoyances are overlooked each time.

Bumping this because of something I just noticed in the 10.5.5 updates fix list.

Addresses an issue in which some Macs could unexpectedly power on at the same time each day
