Basically, I want my printer in a separate room to my desktop as it doesnt get used much and I dont want it taking up what little space I have around the desktop.
Ive no experience with airport and read some bad things about the bluetooth stuff, so what other options do I have?

The printer either needs to have built-in WIFI (unlikely), or you need to put it near your wireless router and connect it through ethernet. Then your Macs will be able to find it through Bonjour.

Must it be a wireless connection? If it's possible to run a cable into the next room, you can save some serious scratch by using a USB extension cable. Newegg has 16ft extensions for $8, or $10 for an active-repeater version - where you can use multiple 16ft extensions if needed.

No WIFI on this printer, wireless would be a big benefit, cables would be a pain to route properly so I wouldnt mind spending a bit extra on whatever other options there are

I would recommend using the Airport. Even though you don't have much experience, it's really simple to set up and the documentation will walk you right through it.

Yeah, an Airport Express is pretty cheap, and VERY easy to set up.

I use an Airport Express. Make sure to use a supported printer.

Do you mean a Mac OS X supported printer, or an Airport Express supported printer? Wouldn't they be the same?

AirPort Extreme.
If you cannot afford that go with an AirPort Express.

I have found great success with a Brother MFC-7840W (BW Laser Printer--less than $300.) It has built in G networking and all of the features of the MFC are available wirelessly (Print/Scan/Fax.)
I also have an Airport Express, to which I have connected a Samsung ML-2010. It works very well from both Windows and Macs on my network (using Bonjour,) but many of the MFCs are limited to printing only.
Hope this helps...

Not all Mac OS X compatible printers will work with Airport printer sharing.
