i made some brownies for work, and had people telling me how foul they were because they had rasins in.

Anyone have any opinions? I can accept that brownies are always yummy, but I think adding rasins adds something (good) to them ...

Dead grapes.

I am not a fan of raisins and chocolate. Some people love em though.

Gross, raisins in brownies. I'd probably spit them out. Raisins work well with oatmeal cookies but not in brownies. Your co-workers are correct that is foul.

Gross. Fruit and chocolate should be kept separate.
Perhaps, maybe, with the only exception being a chunky bar.

You have to be on some serious drugs to make brownies with raisins in them.

I think it sounds pretty good. Especially if you use the golden raisins.

Only the 'good' ones who once faithfully served me.

The 'bad' ones meet a death of unspeakable horror - far worse than raisin brownies or even fruit cake.

I almost hesitate to speak of it - but they are forced to eat a family size box of Sun Maid raisins.

I can see no reason why raisin brownies shouldn’t be good. I like raisins, I like brownies. Can’t imagine them being incompatible.

I do wonder, though, why I keep on reading the title of this thread as Roisin Murphy. Al pawer tu dixlesia.

I think it's the sugar's flavor - natural unprocessed sugars (found in fruits, veggies, milk, etc) are pretty distinct from processed cane sugar.

I agree with most everyone here... raisins and brownies don't mix. Sounds pretty gross.

Let's just say I clicked the thread because I didn't know whether it was supposed to be "raisin brownies" or "raising brownies"... and I couldn't decide which was more absurd.

Chocolate-covered raisins = excellent (the best way to eat a raisin by far)
Raisins in brownies = ew

Have any of the people who are so vehemently opposed to raisin brownies actually tried one before? I don't think I've even seen such a think before (but if someone wants to make me some I'd happily give them a shot and share with the rest of you).

Meh, I'd eat `em. Throw in a few walnuts for good measure. Brownies is brownies.

Try mixing brownies with cannabis, I hear that's popular at company luncheons.

Same here, except I also wondered whether Peter might actually have been meaning to say, “rasing [‘razing’ for you ’Murricans] brownies”, which I found not only far more absurd, but also potentially far more hilarious.

That's got to be nasty. I only like raisins in oatmeal cookies and cereal. Other than that I hate em'.

Another vote for "sounds unappealing," but for me the level of disgustingness would actually have to depend on the texture of the brownie, whether more cake-like or fudgy. The former being more palatable than the latter.

Very true about the texture of the brownie. I personally like mine more on the cake-like side.

I like mine on the more like a brick side. And I always grab the corners first, crunchy and chewy.

i've found that most people do not enjoy raisins in, well, anything.

no no no no no no no.
i like brownies. i like peanuts. i detest them together.
of course, i am a very picky eater. but still. some flavors should remain separate. and it's also a consistency thing. when i'm biting into a brownie, i want consistent chocolaty texture. a juicy foreign object is disruptive and not conducive to good mental health.

it's all a matter of personal taste, but one should always side with keeping it simple when you want to please the most people.

or, you know, just never put raisins in anything.

I guess I’m not ‘most people’, then—I enjoy them in almost everything. The only place where I think they’re kind of misplaced are in Indian-Thai-Malay-style dishes with rice and curry and stuff. There, they make the dish almost cloying.

no no no no no no no.
I’m sensing that you perhaps disagree with my viewpoint?

I’ve never claimed not to be utterly bonkers, of course, but I love that freshness and variation of a juicy foreign object when biting into a brownie/cake/pie/scone/muffin/whathaveyou. That’s the best part.

I make brownies with maple syrup and crushed (not too crushed) macadamia nuts, I have told they are best in the world.

Oh man, that's my favorite place for raisins!

Sounds like a good time to me.

But then, I'm the guy who actually gets the carrot-raisin salad at the buffet.

IDK. I like raisins, but I don't think that they would taste very good in brownies. Dried grapes+chocolate= not the best. However, grapes+fondue chocolate=pretty good.
