The Sept. 9th event... all about iPods I guess. Sigh... so tired of iPods. Using a MacBook that has a 5 year+ design and getting bored. New Apple commercial today too! Guess what, the same old PC and Mac guy.
Apple has neglected their laptops.
Is this getting old?

Personally I was sick of the Mac/PC ads the day they came out.
Also, didn't you get the memo? Apple is an iPod/iPhone company now.

I think the reason why its an ipod only event is because intel delayed the release of their new chips. I think others who are more knowledgeable in this topic could answer better but I wouldn't go as far as saying apple is neglecting their laptops. Not since that product line is their bread and butter.
Both MB an MBPs are due for a refresh, but some apple needs to wait for intel for the next series of chips. I thought it would be nice if they unveiled an atom based laptop but I suspect the odds of that are rather small given the fact it would impact MBA sales.

I was thinking the exact same thing.
The question is, why are two straight, attractive, winning, straight males thinking about Kevin Rose?

Good thing they fixed the side volume controls for the iPod Touch. Now I don't have to hear people whining about it anymore.

I'm thinking this is the last hurrah for the Classic. Reduced HD indicates that people probably weren't snapping the 160 GB up, and it helps make the next Touch (hopefully at 64 GB) not seem too small capacity wise. And given the price reductions, it'll be comparable to the iPod 5G (Which doesn't sound amazing, but given all the extra **** the Touch does, still a deal).

I dunno, but his snide remarks make the entire event so much more fun.

According to Engadget, 2.1 is "free to all users." Is this free to everyone who bought the $20 apps and then the $10 2.0 upgrade, or to everyone no matter their current firmware?
Either way, I'm hoping it stops Safari from crashing on me a couple times an hour.

Pretty poor event even for the iPods... the new nano is physically a poor copy (who wants a rounded screen like an old tube TV??) of the zune, the touch is almost unchanged ($50 worth of flash in a $400 device instead of a $500 device).

10:46AM "This is the funnest iPod ever. We think people will really like. We've got it in 3 models." 8GB, $229, 16GB for $299, and a 32GB for $399. All three are available today. "Now we've got a new ad."
10:45AM iPod touch: 36 hours of music, 6 hours of video, environmentally sound design

Ah blahs.
How boring. More iPods. Back to the 2G Nano design with a twist. With 4000 enigneers working for Apple, why does it take them so long to refresh other product lines...
I don't care that Intel delayed their processor, the MacBook Pro's design is over 5 years old. They should have updated the design long ago. Waiting for new processors has been 'the' excuse for the past 2.5 years. We have seen 4? Intel processors cycle through this cold, tired design already.

But only if it's borked to start with. In which case it probably wasn't a good design.

Why, I like the case, it works well for me, its sleek and modern. I cannot see any real reason to change it other then to change it. Apple isn't about to redesign the case every processor cycle, (or every other) the costs would be prohibitive. Look at the iPod classic. Basically its the same iPod since the first generation. Its a little smaller and squatter but the design works well. Why fix something that isn't broke

That's the problem with being minimalist - anything else is...more. What do you want from the design? Flashy colors? Fins? Hood scoops? This isn't Alienware, it's Apple.

I've always found the MacBook Pros (and similar G4s before that) to be hideously ugly. Right from the start.

Nobody said every clock cycle increase. It has been over 5 years. The design is broken. They are way too hot, and fans are always running. Poor circulation is one of the biggest problems with the MacBook Pro. Moreover, the trackpad bezel is unpleasant on the wrists. It needs to be tapered more, not so sharp... the battery life is horrible, and the whole battery mechanism needs to be revamped: the separation between the case and the battery gets caught on clothing, etc...
As such, just because they have not changed the design does not mean the design cannot be improved upon... and some of us who want these improvements wish this would have happened years ago.
