It took two posts for somebody to use the snappy line.
Did anybody else find it rather weird that Apple mentions fixes for ATI GPUs when it's actually the NVIDIA GPUs that seem to be causing most of the graphics-related issues?

I've been running it for a while. I don't see increases in snappiness, though it's been perfectly stable.

No. It's not weird at all. There are still lots of Macs (my Intel iMac, for one) that have ATI GPUs in them. And just because you're not currently hearing about problems with ATI GPUs doesn't mean there are no problems with them.
What *would* be weird would be if Apple mentioned one company's chips received fixes but not the other. There would be a huge outcry among those with the one that was "left out."

Would that mean that you have been left out since your machine was released?
Just food for thought.

Considering that the NVIDIA problems are actually caused by defective chips, why would you expect Apple to fix those with a driver update?

i've updated everything without hesitation since 10.2, and never had a problem (with the updates anyway).
no matter what else, you know the forum: someone will have a perfect experience, someone will have a terrible experience. someone will report their mac faster, someone else will see a slowdown. and so on.
me, i always back up first, then dive in. it's fun..

The Finder shows version 10.5.6 on my OS 10.5.5 MBP.
In other news, OS 10.5.6 includes a MobileMe syncing improvement.
"Contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Mac automatically sync within a minute of the change being made on the computer, another device, or the web at me.com."

I just finished the update on my iMac, and I'm not seeing anything major. What makes you say it looks like "10.6.5?"

Apple Menu -> About This Mac ... then look at the version number from far away, double-blink, and Voila! The 5 and 6 have transposed.

This might be my imagination but I don't think it is. Prior to updating I had 8.95 GB available on my HD (I checked earlier today). Now I have 9.55 GB available!
Is this normal or did I lose something? I'm checking...

So you don't like the included OS X security updates either?
That's usually why I always do the updates. I usually don't have the problems mentioned in most updates but I do like the security updates. It's also easier to get help when my system is similar to others.

No, not all the problems.
There are problems with the NVIDIA chips not related to any defects. Some are driver related. This is made clear when dual booting Windows/Mac OS. Many of the problems people assume are because of faulty hardware are actually driver related, because they go away when you boot into Windows.
If they were hardware related, you'd have pretty much the same problem whether you booted either operating system.

Because I had my logic board replaced, and all my problems still remain. So either the problems are software-related, or the replacement GPU was defective in exactly the same way as the first one (which, knowing the way NVidia's quality assurance is, wouldn't actually surprise me).

Twice I had the problem where it halted at configuring installation. The combo update appears to have been a success.
For some reason, upon 10.5.6 boot, Spotlight insisted on reindexing my HD.
I had run Disk Utility via install DVD boot and the drive checked fine.
This is my worst Apple updater experience in a very long time. Enough with the damn iPhones, Apple, work on the Mac update's quality!

I've seen that before after long uptimes...I've attributed it to the swap file growing in size over time. I've had long uptimes and swap files in the >1 GB range, where a reboot brings the swapfile down to 64 MB and more free hard drive space.

I'm definitely getting faster launch times for my apps. iCal now opens on the first bounce. Oh and no, its not because I restarted!
On a side note, I had run permissions repair before the update just for kicks. Now after the update, I have tons of changed permissions
in Disk Utility. Thats odd.
Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/chpass" has been modified and will not be repaired. etc...

Indeed. And even worse, although NVidia solemnly swore that all the problems with bad materials used in previous GPUs had been resolved, unibody MBP owners with brand new 9600M GT GPUs are seeing some all too familiar problems...

Spotlight spontaneously re-indexes my drives, whenever it sees fit. Especially the ones I've told it not to index. Really annoying.

But are they hardware related (faulty materials) or software related (faulty drivers)?
If they were hardward related, why would they go away under Windows?
