Sorry for the long story, but this old PB has a myriad of symptoms... could someone diagnose at all or is it suffering end of life multiple organ failure? Thanks in advance!
I left my perfectly working old PowerBook G4 1Ghz with my parents for a year, thinking it'll get them onto macs, but they played with it for a couple of months and went back to their old clunker PC
Anyways, they've not used it for a couple of months now, I tried booting it up last night and it mostly is just unresponsive, it occasionally did half a optical drive start up whine and then goes dead again. Thinking it might be the battery or something. I left it plugged in overnight.
Today, I can occasionally get to the start up chime, sometimes the screen flickers on before it dies, sometimes it finishes booting but the screen is not on (I can just make out the screen in bright light). On a couple of occasion, it actually works! The clock has been reset. and the battery is still not holding any charge - it just says calculating, pressing the battery indicator on the battery itself sometimes brings up a flashing first LED, if at all. it doesn't recover from sleep, just stays dark.
Riiight... any diagnosis on the chance of salvaging it to its former glory (by myself or a repair shop) or should it be put to rest permanently?
