I read an article that stated that T-Mobile may be selling MacBooks for cheap in combination with a data plan.

I've seen a similar article regarding Orange as well.

I've not read the article but dell had similar offers with AT&T with the mini netbook ($99 dollars with a 2 year AT&T agreement) which was equipped with a 3g modem. I would think the revision of the MB[P] would need a 3G modem, or at the very least apple release a netbook themselves (with a 3g modem)

If it means Macs will eventually get locked to only work with a single ISP the way cell phones currently are, I'm against it.

I agree, but rest assured there would be hacks to unlock the device wirhin weeks. I mean the iPhone is hacked sometimes before the firmware is released.

I think you're jumping to conclusions on that. The product hasn't even hit the streets yet.
IF they follow other competitors, they will give a discount for the netbook when you sign a two year agreement. Dell was selling there netbooks for 99 bucks earlier this year with a 2 year AT&T data agreement. That didn't mean you could not buy a netbook and use it on t-mobile or verizon. You could not buy it for 99 bucks but it wasn't locked like the iPhone.
I assume that apple will follow the same path, a discounted netbook with a 1 or 2 year agreement, otherwise you'll have to pay full price - what ever that may be.

You will basically be paying more in the long run IMO.
