My set-up is a Mac Pro and a 30" Cinema Display. When I power off the computer, the display's white LED remains lit. As I am unsure of the power consumption of the screen in this mode, I turn it off.

Question...am I conserving energy by turning off the monitor? Or does the monitor not use energy except for the little white LED? Should I not bother turning the monitor off?

I think the power consumption while asleep is 3 Watts as opposed to the typical 150 Watts while running. Just as a matter of curiosity, my set up is the same than yours and I always turn it off. I feel better, and you're always going to save some energy doing it so.

See some info here.

Get one of the power strips that turns off everything else when the primary devices power usage drops.
