It's really amazing how people can trump the lameness of the Windows 7 Party concept with a even lamer parody on it.

We had one at the MacBU last Friday. It was kind of hilarious, actually -- we're all Mac users, but we're still expected to evangelize for Windows. Instead, we spent the whole "party" making fun of old Microsoft ads on YouTube.

But we watched the ads on IE in Windows 7, so it still counts.

I agree, the video was lame. When I'm watching a video on the internet and it begins with the caption "A surprise delivery to a secret hideaway" I expect — nay, demand — steamy pornography, not a lame unboxing.

"One ticket to Washington, please. I have a date with destiny."

You work for Microsoft in the MacBU? Are you guys shunned like lepers?

Nah, though I do get funny looks sometimes when I bust out my MacBook Pro in common areas. Most of the engineers here are actually surprised that Microsoft even has a MacBU -- I can't even count the times I've told people here what I work on, only to have them say "Wait... we make Office for the Mac? Since when?" The only hostility we ever feel is from good old Steve Ballmer, which explains his low popularity in the BU.

It must be really weird having to interview someone for the MacBU.

So why do you want to work for Microsoft?

Not quite, but this actually happened. Was it a light-hearted joke? Yes. But still makes it clear that "our kind" isn't really appreciated here.

Haha, thankfully at Microsoft each team does their own interviewing, so MacBU interviews for MacBU, Visual Studio interviews for Visual Studio, et cetera. Otherwise yeah, that would be a very awkward interview.

Wait, that's not 100% accurate. I was technically interviewed by someone higher up in the Entertainment and Devices division (where MacBU lives) as my last interview. But he was an ex-Mac developer, so it all worked out nicely.

I used to have morals. Then I got married, had kids and figured out that having debt wasn't the best position to be in.

I imagine M$ salaries and benefits are pretty good. I'd work there in a heartbeat (in the MacBU of course, I know sweet FA about any M$ products except for the Xbox).

I hear ya.

I've been out of work for 8 months and I'm just about desperate enough to work for MS if I got the chance. I've got a few things going against me; white male aged 58.

Ha!

Not really, I keep some really odd hours since I don't have a job to go to. I sometimes stay up all night just because I can.

This. Interesting fact: the average time anyone spends on a team in Microsoft is ~18 months. Meanwhile, most people in the MacBU have been here for 5+ years -- several people are past the 15 year mark, and we just had one guy retire after 19 years working on Mac software for MS.

Not very well, but we've run into each other once or twice. She's the UX manager, right?

That's right. She was on my thesis committee when I was in university.

Uhm, let's see.

Someone who

1) just registered
2) posts links to his videos
3) links to his website in his sig

can't possibly be a spammer. I see.

Well, I do not normally come back to defend posts, but...

Sorry if I offend by posting the link to my little video. I have frequented this form for a long long time, so wanted to share a bit of fun.

Yes, I do benefit (a few UK pennies) when 1,000 people watch a video. But then I do spend hours putting reviews together, shipping products back and forth, so I think that a little bit back is OK.

Oh well rant over. I hope everyone enjoys the video anyway.

You should be banned and scorned from MacNN for all eternity, as well as your kids and your kid's kids!

I enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing it!
