Hello,

I have a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 aka Panasonic drive. I tried to do some searching for a firmware update and it seems there is none for this drive if the current version is:
4A0E

Am I wrong? I am hoping I can gain dual layer burn support with out having to buy a replacement internal one or external.

Thanks

Probably a more important piece of information would be what machine you have.

you're in luck, you'll find firmware in this thread, but be sure to read all the warnings and instructions

The Firmware Page • View topic - MATHITA DVD-R UJ-857 FOR MACBOOKPRO

I didn't read the whole thread, so perhaps your mention of your firmware version indicates that this isn't possible?

Problem I see is that my firmware is Firmware: 4A0E I did not read all the posts but so far no mention of my firmware version.

I have a MacBook Pro Core Duo 2 ghz which I think is rev B, could be wrong. I hope it can dual layer DVDs.

According to MacTracker, if this is a Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), then the drive cannot burn dual layer disks. All C2D machines have dual layer burners.

I really think your best solution is assembling an external burner that can be flashed. You'll have much, much faster burning and you'll be able to use when you eventually get a newer laptop.

Definitely faster: Just look at the burning speeds on an internal superdrive and compare them to the burning speeds you'll get on an external burner in a fw-400 case. It's night and day.
