Agreed. Apart from fries, doughnuts, and beverages, McDonald’s in Denmark haven’t had a single meat-free item on the menu here for about five years. They used to have a vegetarian burger (basically just a McFeast without the meat, but still). Now you have to pay extra to get them to remove the meat from a burger. Cheeky gits.

I had a vegetarian friend who would order her Whopper "her way:" hold the meat. At the same restaurant, she'd get charged anything from 50¢ to full price for the sandwich, but she got what she wanted.

I simply don't get it. A burger without a beef patty tastes like ass. As a vegetarian why would you even go to a place like McD? To me that sounds like going to a synagogue and complaining because there's no communion. Well duh!

For the Fries and the apple pie, of course!
Are the fries at BK still made with beef extract for flavoring?

In 1997 BK declared their fries contain no beef fat or any kind of beef flavoring. In 2002 they admitted to using a small amount of a poultry-based amino acid for flavoring. By 2003 that was supposedly removed as well.
This is in the US. I'm not sure BK uses the same recipe for their fries across the globe. Probably not.

Exactly. Fries, apple pies, and milk shakes.
Or, for Burger King, they actually make fairly decent veggie burgers (by fairly decent I mean they don’t taste like ass), and I love their onion rings and those chili cheese thingies.

What you're looking for is the "Butterburger Deluxe" never, ever go with standard condiments there.
Their custard is alright, but that could be just because I'm a custard nut and it's the best I can do in my town. (Grew up near St. Louis. We love our custard) Carmel Cashew FTW.

BK makes me sick. Can't stand the fries. Meat patties are usually dried out and not even warm.
McD is consistent, not horrible, but consistent. I know what I am getting. I usually order the 2 cheeseburger meal. Fries are great.
I prefer Sonic over all of the fast food joints. Plus the cheesy tots rock.

I was in Las Vegas this weekend and went to In-N-Out Burger for the first time. It was good, definitely better than any of the larger chains, but it didn't jump out as being significantly better than some of the other mid-size chains like Five Guys.

Whataburger and Sonic > McDonald's and Burger King any day.
To this day, I have only had one McDonald's hamburger in my entire life. I didn't even finish the whole thing, if I remember correctly. I've had a handful of Burger King hamburgers, but not in the past ten years. I really liked Fatburger, but it shut down last year in this area.
One day I'll finally have In-N-Out burger...one day...

Egg McMuffin. Yum.
Never had pizza there.
However, the Teriyaki McBurger (available only in Japan) is hands-down the best burger McDonald's offers. No, the McRib doesn't cut it.

Inform yourself about the kind of beef that is used by all of the chains.
I did just that. Turns out the food safety standards for McDonald's and Burger King top those for school lunches
.
"McDonald's, Burger King and Costco, for instance, are far more rigorous in checking for bacteria and dangerous pathogens. They test the ground beef they buy five to 10 times more often than the USDA tests beef made for schools during a typical production day.
And the limits Jack in the Box and other big retailers set for certain bacteria in their burgers are up to 10 times more stringent than what the USDA sets for school beef.
For chicken, the USDA has supplied schools with thousands of tons of meat from old birds that might otherwise go to compost or pet food. Called "spent hens" because they're past their egg-laying prime, the chickens don't pass muster with Colonel Sanders— KFC won't buy them — and they don't pass the soup test, either. The Campbell Soup Company says it stopped using them a decade ago based on 'quality considerations.'"

I've also been to very high end restaurants that can afford to employ lots of preparation and cleaning staff, who scrub clean the kitchen every single night, too.
OTOH, it seems to me that many mom-and-pop diners and small mid-end restaurants are often less than stellar for their cleanliness. Poorly managed fast food restaurants can also be bad, even though their protocols on paper look good. They just don't follow protocol. Then there's those el cheapo in Chinatown, etc. I've been inside the kitchens of a couple, and many are absolutely horrendous.

Here's a vote for FIVE GUYS Burgers and Fries.
I've been eating them since the late 90s (when there was just a couple of them in the DC metro area) and they are, by far, the best fast-food burgers one can get. They can be a bit pricey but their burgers are excellent and their fries, well . . . their fries are amazing. They are cut daily from fresh potatoes and then double fried.

Argh! The one time I neglect to adhere to Oreo’s (?) signature, and everyone notices and pounces. Dammit!
But of course, only the non-decent (i.e., crappy) burgers like ass here.
(Incidentally, I’ve never tasted donkey meat, so I have no first-hand experience of what we’re discussing here.)

Dairy Queen's burgers are better than BK or McD, but Wendy's has the best that I've eaten.
I've never had a burger at a Culver's, Sonic, or that In-n-Out place several have mentioned. Another regional one we have here is Checkers. Tried it once, guess it was alright.
But, back to the question: I think BK is better than McD.

Did you have a 75% off coupon for that? Their smallest burger is $3.60. I don't think it's possible for three people to eat there for $7 (unless you shared a small burger, a small drink, and didn't buy any fries). I'm not saying that it wasn't delicious, I'm just saying the $7 figure sounds a bit off.
We have one here, but I haven't tried it yet. I have a hard time paying $5 for a 1/4 pound of hamburger. If I eat at McD, Wendys, etc., I always use their dollar menus.
My vote is McDonalds over BK. The fries at BK are tiny (quantity-wise) and tasteless in comparison. Although, the fries at McD are also smaller than they used to be.

Hate BK- always have. After enough pestering by my kids, I'll sometimes relent to McD's. I usually go with the Cheeseburger Happy Meal- it's a good value.
I'm miss McD's breakfast in the states- no biscuits over here. If they have an Egg McMuffin- can't remember right now- it tastes different.
The only fast food joint I actually look forward to and make my first stop when I get back to the states is Taco Bell. Two bean burritos do me just right.

Unfortunately it's such good value they hardly include any food.
On a related note, where's the beef?

Meh.
IMHO it's rather pathetic of McD to use such a name for something which ends up being nothing else than a tiny bit of beef that's well hidden beneath lots of bun, lettuce, and sauce.
Mega Mac = 4x1.6 oz, IOW it's not even a double quarter-pounder.
To fit the occasion, another classic where's-the-beef ad.

Yuck. I don't like BK or McDs.
Wendy's burgers taste like actual beef, unlike the salt-grease patties from McD's or BK.
I also don't mind A&W but they're too salty so I don't have them very often.
My fast food preference is Arby's Great Canadian (do they have the GC in the US?)

Amen brother! Why bother with either BK or MD when you can have a Five Guys Burger. And yes, the fries are awesome. Rumor is that one is coming to the Syracuse area soon. Right now, if I crave a fast food burger, Wendy's gets my business.

I took my family out to 5 Guys tonight because of this thread. It was very good, but somewhat expensive. The most expensive fast food burgers I have ever bought, actually. This is what we ordered:
Me: Bacon Cheesburger
Wife: Cheeseburger
6 year old son: Junior Cheeseburger
4 year old daughter: Junior hamburger
1 year old son: hot dog
Everyone: 1 large fry to share
Drinks: water all around
Total price: $26.67
So everyone got a burger, and we shared an order of fries, for ~$27. At McDonalds, that would have only cost me $15 or less. Yes, it was better than McDonalds food, but I think a large part of why people go to McD and BK is for the price. That is why people bother with them, even when there are better alternatives available.

Just had FIVE GUYS for a late lunch/dinner today. I had their regular hamburger with lettuce, tomato, grilled onion, bacon (LOVE bacon), and ketchup. A small side of fries and a small soda rounded out the meal. Oh, it was fantastic.
And yes FIVE GUYS are expensive but real, meaty-tasting hamburgers made without a bunch of chemicals make it worthwhile, to me, to spend the extra money on FIVE GUYS instead of BK, MickieDs, or Wendy's.
PS: Have you had FIVE GUYS in Missoula or elsewhere? (I have a friend in Missoula who is a vegetarian but I bet she would like their fries.)

Thing on the news about Five Guys fries tonight. Worst fries in the country healthwise (cholesterol, fat, salt, calories). Or maybe it was in the state of CA. Also said McDonald's has the healthiest fries.

Wowzers! Almost 1500 calories in their large order of fries! Worst Fries | Eat This, Not That
