Can anyone identify this?
When I saw it poking through the spent seeds (it's under our bird feeder) I thought it was a huge puffball, but when I cleared some of the detritus, it's clearly not a puffball.

I will have my wife send the photo to an old classmate. He resides here in the CNY area and is an expert in the field. I'll get back when he answers.

Those will kill ya!
Just kidding. They appear to be agaricus bisporus, common white mushrooms. They're great in salads and pizza.

For some reason, my head kept telling me "Those look tasty!".
But I know that eating mushrooms you aren't 100% sure of is a recipe for, well, death..
They just came up, so I'll be keeping an eye on them over the next few days. Maybe macforray's expert will assure me they are edible.

You could always pick them, dry them, and then eat them later after you get a confirmation.
I live in a forest and we have panaeolus cinctulus (aka. zoomers) growing everywhere in the spring and fall. Not that we do anything with `em, like dry them out and use them to make tea or brownies. Because, you know, that would be illegal and stuff.

The mushrooms are looking stranger as they get bigger. I'll try and take another picture tomorrow.

Few mushrooms will kill you outright. The majority of the inedible species taste so foul you would not want to eat them anyway, others will just make you sick.

My wife has already stated that there "is no way in hell" she's going to try them.

They look neat. I bet that fly sitting on top there wishes he were smoking a hookah.

Sorry all, but my wife's friend still has not responded. She believes he is more of a mushroom geek than a computer geek. I don't want you to think I posted and ran.

From my wife's friend:
I cannot identify these from the single photo. Some mushrooms are easy to ID from 20' away, and some, "not so much."

This thread title would have been better if it had read "Any Mushroom experts? URGENT"
