I just upgraded my early 2008 MacPro with the Apple ATI 5770 video card. This video card has one Dual-Link DVI port and 2 Mini Displayports.
But I have only one monitor, a Dell 30" connected via the dual link DVI and it seems to work fine at the native 2560x1600 resolution.
Is there any benefit to connection this monitor via Displayport at all?

Smaller connector. That's about it. They're both digital signals, so you shouldn't notice any difference.

My Dell monitor seems to start up and wake from sleep slightly faster when connected via DisplayPort, for what that's worth.
The smaller connector and lack of an adapter are also nice.

You could always buy a cable and give it a whirl. I suggest Monoprice. $4 to $5 for a mini Display Port to Display Port cable.
