I need to block all porn content from my Mac. My young friend uses the computer and I notice that when she is logging out, she clicks out of porn sites that are opened and tells me she doesn't know how they got there. The question I have is can porn sites pop out of nowhere and show their content out of the blue? Please help and excuse my ignorance in this. Thank you.

They do use pop up windows yes, but its more usual that they will pop up while browsing other porn sites. Occasionally you'll get them from other less mainstream sites like torrent sites or dodgy movie/TV/software download sites.
Check browser history and go back to the start to see which sites are open first, before the porn.

On the other hand, if she really wants to look at porn, she'll find a way. Depending how old she is perhaps you should just explain some of the less obvious points about the unrealistic and unpleasant nature of some/most porn as it relates to real sex and offer to answer her questions if she is simply curious.

Lion has parental controls available in the system preferences. There should be some on Snow Leopard too. Take a look there.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

I don't know of a blocker for that particular kind of content, but I'm sure someone will chime in soon and provide links to several products that will do what you're asking for. Good luck!

I would say Intego's Internet Security Barrier. Its ContentBarrier feature seems to fit your needs.

I use Mac OS X's built-in parental controls. My kids each have their own account on the computer, and all accounts have passwords. There are two levels of parental control. I forget what they're called, but one will attempt to block objectionable content, and the other is a straight white list where only the user can only visit web sites that have been explicitly permitted. I use white lists, and am VERY generous about allowing web sites. It works well.

Useful stuff! Thanks a lot! The built-in parental controls? I'll get more information about them.

Thank you! I'll search online. I searched google and found this internet filter for Mac is very popular. Have you used it? Any suggestion?

does that block porn websites with keywords? I know that the built-in mac parental controls blocks sites. However, it can only block site one by one. I need software that block porn content massively.

Blocking porn? Then why would I need a computer?
