That's great! Congrads. I did hear rumors that they were getting a small order in on Friday. I'm guessing I wouldn't be part of it cause I ordered so late. I ordered a 500 MHz from outpost on Jan 24th.

Good luck!

Mike

Probably not a good idea to post your 9 digit zip code to a bulletin board.

did you know that it generally pinpoints your street address to within a few houses and sometimes the exact house?

True, bc my ZIP is the regular old ABCDE and the last four are the four digits of my post office box, so if you lived in Beverly Hills and had PO BOX 1234, your ZIP would be "90210-1234"
Don't know how this works with houses though...Just P.O. Boxes.

I also ordered from Outpost on Jan 11 for a PBG4/500 and have yet to receive a similar notification.

I'm wondering when you placed your order?

I received my shipping confirmation email this morning for a G4/400 ordered on 1/9. There was no tracking number and the Outpost website didn't have it either. Called in and was told it was shipped on Friday for Saturday delivery - I'm at work waiting with anticipation!

WAIT! Airborne just arrived.... IT"S HERE!!!!

Post Offices in big cities generally have their own unique zip code, so the +4 does indicate the mail box number. 90210-1234 would not be a PO Box number because 90210 is for the city of beverly hills and not the post office there. for non post-office zip codes, the +4 tells you which block of what street the house is on and what side of the street it's on.

actually the +4 tell what "carrier route" you are on -- which only *occasionally* by chance correspondends with a city block.

USPS_man must have gone postal. Quite true. For instance, each tower of the World Trade Center in New York has its own ZIP code, and they're on the same block, so this is an extreme example of one block having more than one ZIP code. Within each tower, every office has its own +4 suffix. Elsewhere in the country, some shopping malls have their own ZIP codes, most notably Mall of America.

BTW, you'd better remember to capitalize ZIP, as it's an acronym for Zoning Improvement Plan. Don't make me have to call your supervisor.

The issue of buildings having their own ZIP codes is moot. but actually reinforces my point. The point i was making is that your ZIP code, especially the +4 version, can reveal much more information about your geographic location than you might think. For instance, i was able to narrow down the original poster's address to within a few houses.

I dont buy the carrier route post either. Carrier routes are a different beast. Check your magazines and junk mail, you will see something on the label to the effect of CAR-RT SORT; i think mailers can get a discount from the USPS by providing this info on the mail they send. If all they needed was ZIP+4, why would they provide this information? I think the carrier routes are one more level of detail below the ZIP+4, but i could be wrong.

anyway, yes, bored out of my head waiting for my TiBook!

Alrighty then... lets all go and knock on a few doors until we find Erick's place and have a Quake party. Erick, fit out your G4 with airport and have the martinis chilled and ready to pour.
