I just put a new HD in my 2007 MacBook - Overview: Intel Core 2 Duo / 2.16 GHz / 1 GB RAM
This is where it gets a little crazy. When I attempted to use the original Install Disc that came with the MacBook, the Disk Utility would not allow me to format the drive. I kept getting the following error message: Input/output error. That particular Disc had OS 10.4.10 on it.
I grabbed the Install Disc for another Mac that has OS 10.5.4 on it. I was able to boot off that Disc, open Disk Utilities and format the new drive without any problem. But when I try to run the installer, I keep getting the message that Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer.
When I boot and run the installer from the Install Disc that came with my MacBook (10.4.10), it doesn't recognize the HD at all. What's more crazy is that Disk Utility off that Disc tells me that I have a 1.2 TB drive installed! The Disk Utility on the 10.5.4 Disc reads it correctly: the new HD is 160 MB (5400 RPM).
Does anybody have any suggestions? I've also run the extended Hardware test on the new drive and laptop and everything tested fine.
Thanks!
