Apple has run out of launch-day shipments for the iPad mini, a check of Apple's online store shows. While white Wi-Fi models went out of stock on Friday, some black models were still available over the weekend. As with the white units, black ones are now listed as shipping in two weeks, well past the November 2nd launch date.

Still unclear is how preorders of cellular-equipped Minis may be doing. Those models are only slated to ship in "Mid November," which gives Apple a flexible schedule. At the least, however, demand may be low enough to avoid pushing shipments into late November or early December. Both black and white Minis should be available on November 2nd through Apple Stores and various third-party retailers. How retail demand will play out remains to be seen, since the Mini isn't the most powerful iPad, and Apple faces stiff competition from Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, which is both cheaper and technically superior, at least in some respects. Whereas the Kindle Fire starts at $199, Apple is charging a minimum of $329 for a Mini.

This story is another example of MacNN's seeming continued effort of late to express an anti-Apple sentiment by trying to minimize how well the iPad mini is doing in the marketplace, using speculation and bias in its "coverage" to do so. The entire second and third paragraphs of this story are nothing but opinion and conjecture, with no sign of actual journalism in evidence, but reveal an obvious bias on the part of the writer/editor/publisher.

It can be said that Apple's iPad mini is superior technologically, if one values a larger screen in a thinner, lighter design, with a larger and superior app selection, than can be had with any Android tablet offering - and that the price is attractive relative to those offerings in the sense that a feature checklist and low price mean nothing if the implementation is inferior. See how subjectivity can "spin" reality? The bottom line is, the marketplace will decide. Your job is merely to report what's happening, not to push an agenda based upon your diminished opinion of Apple.

In that vein, I would request higher quality journalism, which would at least attempt to report both sides of the story. If not, I can always find my tech news elsewhere, and that would be a shame, since I've been an avid reader of MacNN for many years.
