Well, I'm going to be doing a review on behalf of MacNN on Powerlogix's new G4 upgrade for the Pismo. I have two 500-megahertz G3 processor boards, and I'm wondering if any of you want to swap processor boards before I fire one off to Powerlogix for upgrade. This is going to be a personal transaction, and if anything goes wrong, MacNN's not responsible. I'll be.

I figure, someone here might need my chip more than Powerlogix needs to recycle it into their other G3 upgrades. The catch? There is none. I need to have the CPU for a few days to run some tests on it for my benchmarks, but you'll have my 500-megahertz G3 card 2-3 days after I get yours. I'll end up with two 500-megahertz CPU's either way, but this way, one of you might be able to run OS X a little faster and extend the life of your trusty Pismo free-of-charge. I need the CPU for the review, anyway, so it's a win-win situation for both of us.

You can trust me. I've spent the time to write more than 5,000 posts here, and I'm not about to ruin my reputation over a scam to get someone's 400-megahertz CPU board.

I am pressed to get this swap done before July 5th because Powerlogix's upgrade box is coming Thursday, and I don't want to make the review wait longer than it has to. Thanks!

Yes...it sounds too good to be true...but I'll trust your reputation. It is actually quite thoughtful of you to think of your macnn friends like that.

Sure I'll bite..PM me.

Hi Sean,

I don't want to sound like a poor loser, but I sent yo a personal email (sent to [email protected]) regarding your 500mhz CPU, before anyone posted a reply on the message board.

Anyway...It's your card, and your perogative as to who you give it to. It's truely a generous offer.

I'd just like to take the opportunity to vouch for Sean's honesty and generosity.

I'm the owner of Sean's old Lombard powerbook. He was kind enough to let me have it for nearly free. It is now my primary machine.

The powerbook is viewable at

If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Wish there was a link to all Powerbook restorations. I would put my Ti page there with instructions on how the work was done.

On the contrary, I find these restorations fascinating as I am not so clued in to the options and materials available. The MAAS stuff on the hinges was particularly interesting - what the heck is it and how do you use it. And yes, what kind of tape was that?

You're right and I'm sorry but I keep seeing that
link and I keep getting tricked into clicking on it
thinking I might see the whole thing stripped to
the base metal (naked Ti). I guess I'm just a
pervert
