Video playing and translation app VLC has received a major new update today, including a return to an iOS version of the app. The latter has actually been available for a while now, but was only offered to those who had originally "purchased" the official iOS app. The new version today is a minor bump from the "buyers only" v2.4.0, now at 2.4.1 for iOS and available to all. The desktop version for various platforms is 2.2.0, with a v1.1.0 final for Android and a beta of the same version for Android TV also being released. The release marks the first time the company has ever updated across all major platforms simultaneously, and reports that over 1,000 bugs were squashed as part of the work done over the past year by open-source volunteers. Among the major feature changes are the ability of the app to detect and automatically rotate "vertical" videos (as often shot on smartphones), a "resume playback" feature for the desktop versions, better support for 4K and UltraHD video codecs, further compatibility with oddball codecs, and the introduction of hardware acceleration on some platforms.
Specifically for iOS, the new version gains support for the iPhone 6 line, support for external subtitles and streaming from Google Drive, and a media library search function. The Mac version gains an updated Yosemite-like interface, while the Android version is also updated to use Google's Material Design aesthetic. Public beta versions for Windows Phone and Windows RT are now available for the first time, along with the Android TV beta. The company also announced it is working on another big release, version 3.0, which will "continue what we've started" with today's release.
MLB At Bat gains Spanish, new UI, iPhone 6 support, more
Just in time for Spring Training, the MLB At Bat app for the iPhone and iPad has seen a major update to version 8.0, which brings new features, details on what content will be available in 2015, a refreshed UI, and support for Spanish language throughout (for iPhones and iPads with the device language set to Spanish). The iPhone version gain a new user interface for all 30 team pages and the main scoreboard, an expanded player search, and team-by-team statistics data filters, along with new team schedule navigation and support for native iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus resolutions. Both the iPad and iPhone versions gain a redesigned UI for the newsreader, and the Spanish language support.
The $20 per year subscription (or $3 per month) includes more than 200 available Spring Training games streamed live (and live Spring Training radio broadcasts), batter tracking and other statistics for all Spring Training games, update schedules and rosters, and a video library archive (including classic games). The new At Bat app is available now on the iOS App Store, and is also available for selected Android phones and tablets.

I get a "no longer available" message when I try to update the app (it's listed in the App Store Updates).

It is worth mentioning (again) that if you did not originally acquire VLC from the App Store, it will not turn up either on a search or in Previously Purchased. Updating from within the app itself returns a "You're up-to-date!" message.
You can download v2.2.0 directly at the following link:

HPeet: unless I'm missing something (quite possible) you're confusing the desktop (v2.2.0) and iOS (v2.4.1) versions of VLC, which are separate. What you say is true about the iOS version, but then you link to the OS X version, which is not (and is unlikely to ever be) in the Mac App Store. The iOS version can only be obtained from the iOS App Store. Cheers.
