Another good, space-related one from a reddit TIL.
Today I learned when weightless, without sufficient airflow, you'll form a bubble of CO2 around your head and suffocate.
The thread also discussed "fecal popcorn", so I guess this is a two-fer.
Why they don't call it "poopcorn" is a mystery to me.

Today, I learned what is a substitute rover. It is a sub teacher who goes around various classes and teaches 1-2 classes before moving onto a different classroom. Used when teachers are only out for 1-2 periods due to some sort of meeting.

That thing is all over the net recently. It's not even particularly accurate - Apple had a keyboard dock for the first iPad, and many third parties had keyboard cases long before the Surface - but there are always fans for that sort of thing.
|
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

My kneejerk reaction was the same thing, to pick it apart, (the part where people praise the additions as inventions seems off), but the general idea – that Apple will release something that already exists and laud itself as being revolutionary, is fairly spot on.

They didn't call this revolutionary, did they? I did watch the stream this time (first time in years, and I was mostly playing with my iPad anyway), but I don't think that they made this out as the Second Coming the way they did with say Force Touch when they launched that.

They could, if they make the overage all-electric. Not seeing that happening.

I do a lot of sub teaching. I have learned the difference between 6-7th graders between the bad schools and the good schools.
The students in the good schools wear children clothes and don't grease their hair. The students in the bad schools wear adult clothes and grease their hair.

Today I learned if you carry firearms in your luggage, not only can you seal your luggage up with whatever badass, non-TSA approved lock you want, you're required to do so by law.
People do this to stop the TSA stealing their shit.

Yes, it's a pretty cool loophole.

This is why many photographers will carry a starter pistol or flare gun in their luggage - securely locked up and much more care taken.

I wonder if live ammo will do.
Right now, my standard procedure for photography equipment is to FedEx it.

You have to declare that the firearm is there before hand, and (as far as I know) you watch the (more senior) TSA guy inspect that it's properly secured in your bag. You can travel with ammunition, as well, but it has to be in original retail packaging, not loaded in magazines.
I'd FedEx anything that wasn't carry on-eligible other than firearms, and I certainly wouldn't travel with an extensive arsenal - it gets you talked about.

There's a limit to how much you can take with you, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't qualify as ORM-D because of that limit.

Today I learned how to shoot an arrow using a recurve bow today. Evidentially, I shoot right-handed, but I think I am actually left-handed. Going to eventually buy a bow that fits both hands.

That was my thought, but it seems that "special" is an increasing trait in our society...

Today I learned that the iPad pro is not for me. I purchased the 128 GB model this morning and found it to be too big. The speakers are nice and it is fast, but it isn't for me. I returned it to the Apple Store where I got it from and went online to Appleinsider (Adorama) and bought a nice MacBook Air 13" with 8GB of ram for $4 less than my iPad pro (with promo code and no tax state).
The MacBook Air could do a lot more than the iPad pro and I "need" it for when I do my business travels (need Java and the ability to upload files and zip and rar stuff).

Yeah, it's just a bigger Hearthstone machine.

Same here. My iPad 2 was aging and when I compared the cost of a replacement iPad to a MacBook Air, the iPad didn't make sense. I picked up a 2013 11" Air for $520 and it's awesome. The only reason I've touched my iPad in the last four months is to watch locally-cached videos on Amazon Prime, a feature they only offer on mobile devices.
