Another successful PAX East in the books, now the 4th I've gone to, but wasn't fast enough on the draw to get a 3-day pass this year so I missed the Friday festivities. Now for some pictures and random thoughts.
Perhaps they're trying to stand out due to multiplayer market congestion.
That's pretty much the only thing I could figure out.
I have no strong suspicion. Maybe user base is declining faster than it used to. I can't imagine DLC revenue is down. Or maybe microtransactions are so lucrative they can afford to front-load content.
Goodwill does happen. EA has been talking quite a bit lately at analyst calls and the like about how they're trying to rebuild PC players' confidence in them. Not that I believe them or anything, but that they speak about it hints at a concern among analysts that publishers that are generally hated among players see lower sales as a result. New maps are a fairly cheap way to get that goodwill.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
You mean a store? Because there is always a launcher on the Windows games for setting up the half of the game settings that don't exist on console (graphics quality and the like). Annoying, but a lot of games work like that.

That reminds me, I heard Bethesda is bringing their own launcher to the launcher wars.

It's a launcher, similar to Origin and Uplay.
Someone mentioned how it will somehow help Bethesda push out mods to PS4/Xbone, but I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind that. What I suspect is that we're about to see paid mods make a glorious return. I'm bracing myself for the rabid pushback.
Anyone besides sek played Overwatch yet? I got an early-access beta key (got it on PC due to peer pressure), but staying up until 1am was too much for this old fart on a work-night. Hopefully be playing tonight.
Great fun, great maps, great 'playability'. I can see why so many Battlefield and CoD players on YouTube enjoyed it so much. I have to stop wanting to ADS with the right mouse button (only one character actually ADSes). No lag issues, no frame drops (as far as I can tell), really polished. So many different heroes (I've used 4 or 5 of the 21). Game types are fun, domination type and escort type and a combo of them both which I like alot (the few domination games that I played went too quickly). As some YouTubers said, the noobs will find certain heroes overpowered until we learn how to defeat them.
Dunno how different the console versions will be to the PC (some talked about not being able to 180° on the console), but this'll be played for a while. Looking forward to the weekly brawls where you can have ultra quick cool-downs, or same heroes, or not being able to chose a hero etc. They'll need to add more heroes and maps later on to keep the players happy. Hope they won't be too expensive.
Are you playing on PC? I've been playing for a while, it's really fun. Widowmaker is my favorite (sniper, duh), but filling out roles in the team is pretty important. It'd be great to get an organized group together to be able to make real strategic choices.

I'm on PC : ZeVeteran on Battle.net, mike is busted (never buying Corsair headphones again).
Did you get into the closed beta?
Played a few more after posting last night. Can't help myself picking Soldier 76 - he's the only one that sprints! Plus the rifle and rocket combo works wonders on the tanks. Healing yourself reminds me of Battlefield assault class.
I enjoyed Pharah but I'm no good, always forget that I could fly around. Mercy wasn't fun, just got killed loads. Zarya isn't bad, but you need to be closer than I like to get to the enemy. Zenyatta is really good, healing and dealing damage. McCree's ultimate is SOOOO satisfying and of course what is better than fanning the hammer when a tank approaches? His stun, when used correctly, can get you some decent kills.
I'll have to try the others tonight and force myself not to use Soldier 76.
Never mind, Amazon sent me the code in the afternoon.
I still don't have my code, but I didn't pre-order the game until...Monday evening, I believe.
I wasn't aware that open beta early access applied to every pre-order. Am I misunderstanding? I previously thought it only worked if you bought from their official site.
Roadhog is excellent.
A Reinhardt + a Mercy and you capture anything.
I can't snipe for shit.
Not good with Pharah either.
Junkrat is OK but the combat isn't face to face, you're bouncing your nades everywhere so don't see most of your victims.
D Va is quite good, but you're really slow when shooting.
I hate going up against Tracers.
Weekly brawl was no-choice of hero and you changed hero after each death. I hated it.
Some nice people on, some real pricks as well. I'll see what the XBone plays like tomorrow.
I was in closed beta, and have been playing open beta. Battle tags usually have a number with them. Mine is kawika#1514
I've finally convinced a few more friends to play, so far they're liking it but learning slowly.
Friend invite sent, but tbh with you being in Hawaii and me in France, I doubt that we're awake the same hours.
Yes for some heroes its a steep learning curve. Maybe these last two days of the beta I'll try and get better with Genji, and some other high-skill characters. I suck at Zarya but apparently she can be used very effectively. Not even tried Winston, Tracer, Reaper or Hanzo yet.

Dunno if its a bug, but I can't change back to the default for Hanzo. I rock purple cross-hairs.
Luckily this game isn't measured in k/d. I seem to be getting Reinhardt for quite a few matches (god-tier tank for the escort maps) and while he does have a distance attack, its not the quickest or most accurate for medium to long range. However, the satisfaction when using the ultimate and then battering people across the map with the rocket hammer is just sky high.
There are some who have really mastered certain heroes. Some on YouTube or Twitch who used to be CS:GO or TF2 Pro players get the hang quickly. A guy called A_Seagull stands out from the rest as a particularly lethal Genji. Valkia pwns with Pharah. I have yet to find a high-skill Reinhardt to learn from though.
Finally, while I haven't played much on console, I can safely say that I prefer playing on the PC. The movement just doesn't feel right after playing on PC. For those who have consoles, I suggest not playing on a PC before getting used to it on console.
I watched the LevelCap vid. Tons of info. Looks like it could be massive. The BF3/4 fanboys seem happy, I just hope it doesn't take Dice too long to actually have a playable product once its released. Netcode for me was unacceptable.
Destiny was 4.6 million.
The Division was 6.4 million.
Star Wars: Battlefront, not a new IP, was 9.5 million, and was one of if not the largest beta ever.
Battlefront did great numbers but didn't take the world by storm. Anecdotally the BF beta turned off players. I hear the opposite for Overwatch's.

Yeah, Blizzard has a massive hit on their hands. I'm definitely keeping my preorder.

Was the Xbone download as massive as the PS3/PS4 one? I remembered thinking, "Well, I spent two days downloading that, only to be disappointed." I deleted it within the week. It was something like 40GB at one point, IIRC.
DCU was okay for PC, I played it to reconnect with old WoW guildies who had gone to play it. Marvel's was better, but still not anything I wanted to put a lot of time into. The best of the genre was City of Heroes, though patches ruined it and it didn't hold up well visually.

Yeah the subreddit is HUGE for this. Seems like a few suppliers have listed the 23rd as the release date now. Still says the 24th in Battle.net. Wonder if we'll get sales figures published to see how many of those beta players mean games sales. Pro-scene is already popular as well (not LoL or CS:GO popular but still). Overwatch lore is pretty interesting for those that like that sort of stuff (Blizzard Watch • Overwatch has a pile of story you should know...), I enjoyed it. Plus there are some comics available (https://comic.playoverwatch.com/en-u...a-better-world) 4th one just came out.
Pretty positive reviews for Doom around the net. Doubt that I'll get it (even though I thought that I would), maybe when the price comes down if I'm bored of Overwatch.
Doom is the shit. Remember that feeling you had playing the SP campaign in the original Doom and Doom 2, long ago? That dread mixed with excitement? They've re-captured it, in spades. Buy it.

60€ for a good single player (what, about 15 hours of gaming) seems a bit steep. Multi sucks apparently (not developed by id).
Good guy Blizzard: Overwatch disc shipments got moved up a day and it turns out its so physical media gamers can install (preload) their copies for when the servers come online (at midnight).
It took three years, but this generation is starting to pull out some fresh approaches.

Dunno what its like on NeoGAF but on reddit, Blizzard seem to have a pretty good reputation.
Did you watch the vids from Gamespot about Overwatch? Loads of interviews with Blizzard people, a bit about Titan and how that fed into Overwatch.
