Here's the reply from ATI after sending them the above info:
ATI Software Engineering has been advised of the above issue and is
investigating.
SOLUTION: NONE AT THIS TIME. - this issue has no apparent impact on system
performance.
Regarding:
Just downloaded the latest driver update...Same problem (freezing in games,
etc.),
ATI Technical Support has received reports of games freezing in Performa
6400 series and Power Mac 6500 series based systems. Recently ATI Technical
Support was able to test a PowerMac 6500. We were unable to duplicate any
of the issues reported. All QuickDraw 3D RAVE and OpenGL games worked fine.
My recomendation at this time would be the following:
1. Clean install Mac OS 8.5
2. Update to Mac OS 8.6
3. Remove any ATI system components installed at this point
4. Easy install ATI software using the 4.2 Universal Installer (
http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/xclaim.html
<http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/xclaim.html> ) - restart
5. Install OpenGL 1.1.2 (
http://www.apple.com/opengl/
<http://www.apple.com/opengl/> ) - restart
6. Test games
7. If the problem persists at this point please send in an Apple System
Profiler report and another ATI Problem Report
If you wish to have the product replaced please contact ATI Technical
Support directly at 605-882-2626 to arrange an RMA. If you wish to return
the product I would direct you to Sales (
