huh? What the..??? - 7300 & Monitor

If the machine is restarted the monitor size gets large. I've deleted the monitor, finder, Appleshareprep preferences, run Norton Utilites, defragmented the HD, and it didn't work most of the time. There was one time taht deleting the monitor preferences and it worked.
But most of the time the only was to get the monitor back to normal is to Zap the PRAM. There is a third party graphics card in the machine since the monitor is 21".
This has been going on for a couple months now. Haven't had to mess with it since November 2nd. How's that for not restarting your machine? And it was up and running all that time.
Thoughts? Ideas? Comments? Experiences? Suggestions?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!

Delete the "Display Preferences" file and restart. Then go to the Monitors and Sound control panel (do NOT use the control strip, go to the actual control panel) and set the res. Then restart again.
That used to do it for me.

Hello  It sounds like your PRAM battery is dead or going dead.
A trick that might work to test it is to pull the battery out.
Hold it in a warm hand or in your shoe for a few minutes.
This heats it up and get a litlle more juice out of it.
Replace and restart. Reset monitor settings to your prefs.
Shutdown, wait a second or two and start it up again.
Did your settings stay? yes- battery is at very low power
no- battery is dead. You can get a replacement at RadioShack
or lots of places. Should cost about $10. Or take to local dealer.
They can replace it for you at an extra cost.

Hmm, I've posted this advice twice today. Don't even bother trying to get juice out of the old battery. Just go out and get a new one. I bet your monitor will return to normal shortly after you install the new battery.

Thanks for the advice!
I hadn't considered the battery. The date and the time stay the same. Desktop pattern doesn't get screwed up and it doesn't revert to black and white.
But then again this is a 7300 and I've seen some weird things with these computers here at work. I'll try the battery and see if it works.
........regarding the shoe......... well,......it could eat the battery away!
