I would like to transfer stored emails in outlook express from powerbook G3 to G4. I am using firewire to connect the units and have been able to tranfer some files but not any outlook express files.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Outlook Express e-mails can be found in the Micrsoft User Data folder which you will find inside the Documents folder on your HD. Inside the MS User data folder look in indentities, messages are kept in the main identity folder

The "Microsoft User Data" folder HAS to be in the "Documents" folder on your computer, or Outlook can't seem to find it. If you don't have one, set it up so the following path exists:

Your HD / Documents / Microsoft User Data

Also, do a search on your machine and see if you've got a second "Microsoft User Data" folder floating around somewhere. It might be linking to that instead of the folder you moved over.

Which version of Outlook Express are you using?

If you drill down past User Data /Identies/Main Identities you get
to a number of files including Messages. I copied messages into
the same location on my new computer but for some reason it does not read into outlook express .
Both versions are 5.1

Try deleting your Outlook Express prefs file, if you haven't already.

Did you copy the ALL the contents of the Microsoft User Data folder, or just the Identities folder?

Try copying the entire User Data folder. There are several other files in there that keep track of your message and settings and such and that might be why your messages aren't showing up.

Thanks, this worked.
Any idea on how to recover the e-mails that were on the new computer that presumably were deleted when I replaced the User Data file?

Just copy the Micrsoft User Data folder on to the new comp, and then import from the new OE. It will ask you to find the floder, navigat to it, and voila. thats hwat i have done in the past, my problem now is trying to get me messages from Entourage into OE, Entourage is abeast, (as are all M$ apps). Im gonna try Eudora.
