New here and to X and I have some questions already:
1. I'm on the new ibook and when I drag the battery moniter icon to the dock all I get is an icon on the dock that looks like the generic .dock icon. Did I do something wrong?

2. I saw on apple.com in the X pics that someone made it so they had no icons on their desktop (including their harddrive) but they appeared in his dock....how can I do this?

thanks for the help, I've been lurking around this forum so long that i deserve to have these problem to make me post!

1) no idea
2) Go the to Finder prefs and uncheck the box which says "Show drives on desktop."

1) i'm not 100% sure about this one, but here's some help:

Where is the battery monitor.dock located? Make sure it's in Computer/Library/Dock Extras

If that doesn't work, try double-clicking on it--i think it will launch. I think the first is all you need, though

2) Once you turn off desktop drives in finder prefs, just drag any drives you want to the dock

Thanks, the second one worked, but I had to call up Apple to get a solution to the first one. I eventually had to reinstall X over the copy I had and that replaced the neceassary files with working ones w/o erasing the hd.
