Is it possible to set up a customer database in excel? I have all of them in Appleworks 6 right now, but am looking for a better database system.
Thanks

Well,

you could do it, but a better solution for keeping customer data may be Filemaker Pro. Nice interface, easier to manage the databse, esp. once it grows bigger.

You should be able to import them into Excel quite easily.

Controlling a database in Excel is not too much of a hassle, provided you know Visual Basic for Applications. If you do, you can create a nice interface for inputting new entries, and also for viewing existing entries. Without VBA, you're going to have to use the sorting commands to manage the database, and enter new data by hand, cell by cell...

Although Excel can easily be used for database purposes, it would be much easier to use a specific database application. Since MS Access is not available for Macs, you probably have to go for FileMaker (I'm not aware of any alternatives, but that doesn't mean they don't exist). Or if you want to use an Office compatible database app, you can always use Access through Virtual PC, and Excel v.X or 2001 can then access the database file without any problems.

I highly suggest sticking with AppleWorks 6 or moving up to FileMaker. Avoid Office for databases as much as possible.
