Welcome to California, although over here a 5.5's more like hitting a speed bump.

ya it woke me up too. I'd lived in California so I'm no stranger to quakes but I am a stranger to quakes that wake me up at 650 in New England!

Yea, I'm in plattsburgh near the epicenter. I am not in one of the high rise dorms, but my third floor room got pretty shook up. The amazing thing was the noise, it was just overbearingly loud. My roomate, in classic form, slept right through it because of his massive hangover.

Yup, I woke up at about 6:50 or so and heard a loud tapping, and then I heard my mirror shaking against the wall, and it happened for about 30 seconds or so.

Did you feel some rumble or it's just sound? If just sound then that's why I didn't hear it since I'm deaf.

I probably woke up from the sound, but once I was awake I could feel my whole room moving slightly (probably enough to wake me up if the sound didn't at first).

Strange; I'm there too at the moment and I slept right through.

Why do I always have to miss it whenever anything interesting happens?
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

The earthquake didn't happen in Rochester, but it was felt as far north as Maine and as far south as Baltimore, so we should have felt it too.

But you're right; not only did I sleep right through it, but my stuff's all in order too.

Everything is in order here too, only a few things rattled and what not.

I live in Burlington, Vt., just across Lake Champlain from the epicenter. The shaking woke my wife, who then woke me (otherwise I'd probably have slept through it). For a split second I thought it was the wind, but then I realized it had to be an earthquake -- my house was moving just too damn much for it to be anything else. What's weird is I have no recollection of any noise, even though everyone else I've talked to about it -- including my wife, who was lying right next to me at the time -- says there was a heck of a rumble.

No damage, though. The quake opened a dresser drawer and knocked my wife's diploma off a shelf, but that was it. There were a couple minor damage reports from around Vermont; worse, or course, was right near the epicenter, where there were roads that caved, windows that broke, power that blew out, liquor bottles that fell from shelves, etc.

Here's the real strange thing: my boss stops at my desk Friday afternoon and says, "There's going to be a quake tomorrow. I can smell it." I thought he was looney until 6:50 a.m. All in all, a wacky way to start my Saturday.
