I've seen more westerns in my life than I'd ever care to admit, so Lead and Gold is looking pretty freakin' exciting for me. I've always wanted a multiplayer western game where I could recreate some of those gang shoot-outs in an old West Texas-type town (no joke). The graphics aren't spectacular, and the animation isn't going to blow anyone away, but it's a western shoot-'em-up, dadburnit...

Unfortunately, the new Ratchet & Clank game doesn’t work, so I’m debating whether to get Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, and a placeholder to exchange later; or just skip it again this year.

20k is impressive, though I'd consider 25k the real achievement after 10k.
Do you really think you'll never reach 25k? Because the only way that happens is if you cancel live.

Wii Fit may surpass San Andreas sales, Wii Play is top selling 'game' of the last 10 years
Naughty Dog Explain Uncharted 2 Thanks For Bungie, Infinity Ward, Et Al. - Uncharted 2 - Kotaku
Bungie stuck out because corporate structure has made it such that the company has traditionally only developed for the Xbox 360. Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward makes multi-platform games, so it wasn't such a big deal to see them — more like, oh hey, Infinity Ward!
Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann explains the end credit list in a live chat with fans: "We try to be quite open with our technology and our process. We exchanged technology and ideas with other developers. We wanted to make sure we thanked everyone that helped us out in some way."
Frankly, I'm shocked Sony allowed this. Pretty cool.
Kurt Cobain Parody Vid Taken Down on Activision's Request - guitar hero 5 - Kotaku
Remember the video of Kurt Cobain singing Bon Jovi's hits, and shrieking "yeah, boyeee!" in "Bring the Noize?" The compilation that hung the game with its own rope for its treatment of Cobain is gone from YouTube, on Activision's demand.
Sure, videos get taken down all the time. But search for "Guitar Hero" on YouTube and you get more than 300,000 results. While not all are video directly from the game, it's undeniable that there are many out there showing gameplay, except in a positive light. Most recently there's a guy hundred-percenting eruption in Guitar Hero: Van Halen and using the video to pimp Gamer Grub. Maybe not as embarrassing as the Cobain foofaraw, but I'm sure some lawyer-mans could reason that it's an unauthorized endorsement.
Sounds like BS, kinda like when EPIC closed the fake Cliffy B twitter account when one of the posts hit a little close to the mark ( "After much testing, it looks like matchmaking is permanently broken ... There are new maps though, only 800 Microsoft Points!").
Personally, they should treat these take downs like patent law (where you constantly have to defend your patent or it lapses). If GH is cool with 500,000 videos featuring their game, they don't get to nit-pick one just because they don't like the way their content is portrayed (especially if its completely truthful).

Nah 25k will happen, its more the 50k i know i'll never reach, with MW2, bioshock 2, forza, assassins creed II, and splinter cell coming i would say its probably closer than i'd like to admit
EDIT: The real achievement was finding a perfect 70 gamerscore combined to get 20k exact last night, ha

Tuesday News NPD Edition
September NPD: Obviously Destined to Sell Tons
-DS: 524K29K (-5%)
-PS3: 492K282K (+134%)
-Wii: 463K186K (+67%)
-360: 353K138K (+64%)
-PSP: 190K50K (+36%)
-PS2: 146K40K (+38%)
Check out the software sales chart after the break.
Halo 3: ODST - 360 - Microsoft - 1.52m
Wii Sports Resort (w/ Wii Motion Plus) - Wii - Nintendo - 443K
Madden NFL 10 - 360 - EA - 290K
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - DS - Nintendo - 258K
The Beatles: Rock Band - 360 - EA - 254K
Madden NFL 10 - PS3 - EA - 247K
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 -360 - Activision - 236K
Batman: Arkham Asylum - PS3 -Eidos - 213K
Guitar Hero 5 - 360 - Activision - 211K
The Beatles: Rock Band - Wii - EA - 209K
Observations: I'm a little surprised the PS3 didn't outsell everyone else by more, until you see it had double the increase in sales, so I guess sales were really in the dumpster. I bet waiting til September didn't help either, as people are probably pushing back purchases til Christmas now.
On the software side, a few surprises: Batman managed to chart for a second month, but on the PS3 instead of the 360. Now, the 360 version could very well be less than 10k off at spot 11 and we'll never know, but it's still noteworthy in that it demonstrates that habit the PS3 has of putting a nice attach rate on the quality multiplatform titles.
The other surprise comes the Beatles/Guitar Hero dichotomy. Beatles sold well on the 360 (No surprise) but its number two seller was the Wii (massive install base not withstanding). The PS3 crowd, it appears, are Guitar Hero people.
NPD Instant Analysis: Things You Should Note - Sales - Kotaku
Totilo's take.

Thursday News
In-game 'shop' will bring microtransactions to Fable 3
the legendary designer revealed his intent to integrate an "in-game shop" within the game world, enabling players to purchase DLC ... Molyneux had suggested special weapons, for example, could be sold for about £1 ($1.70).
This what anti-DLC people predicted would occur eventually? Paying to play the game after you've paid the game. Of course, brought to you by – MS.
Ballmer Talks Natal, Says Blu-ray Add-On for Xbox Coming - Steve Ballmer - Gizmodo
When I asked Ballmer about adding Blu-ray to the Xbox, he said: "Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories."
This was rumored long ago, after the HD-DVD drive was discontinued, but everyone thought it would have appeared by now. Assuming it's true, I have a feeling MS will manage to price the thing in such a way that the PS3 will still be a viable alternative. (Srsly, I could see he drive costing as much as an Arcade. Maybe a contradictory Natal bundle?)

Playing Bond the other night made me realize just how useful the multiplayer customization was in PD. In 007 3/4 of the weapon playlists are entirely useless as one weapon is overpowered or the main weapon is overshadowed by familiar weapons (like the Pistols in a Hand Grenade match or in Automatics the Deutsche out-classes everything else)
I will buy Perfect Dark for XBLA, at least we'll all finally get to play it at a decent frame-rate.

...and this is why no one takes Ballmer seriously.
PSA: Microsoft not planning Blu-ray drive for 360
Clearing the air, Microsoft's Larry Hryb (a.k.a. Major Nelson) has gone on the record saying that the company has "no plans" for a 360 Blu-ray drive, adding that Ballmer was actually referring to Blu-ray drives for PCs.

Though I just skimmed the comments on the Engadget post, and apparently it requires a disc. That’s annoying. Hope they work with Sony at some point to just build it into the video menu on the XMB.

Anybody interested in Borderlands? I didn't even know of it's existence until late last night watching Venture Bros.
Looks like it could be incredibly mediocre or a sleeper hit.

If this damn thing had come out before ODST, I would have gotten it instead.

Is it an ARPG ala Fallout 3, upgrading your character and such, or is it more like STALKER where you just upgrade equipment and your character says the same?
Or am I off base with both impressions?

Ok,after some clicking around it is apparent that I will be buying this game. I think the single player experience will balance out the 'nothing-but-multi' MW2 gameplay. Early reviews are praising the multi in borderlands too, looks like Fatty and Dakar are locked in.

The rumor that wouldn't die.
Rumor: Animator resume lists work on 'GoldenEye 2010'
According to the eagle-eyed Superannuation, Craig Peck listed work on a game dubbed "GoldenEye 2010 (Wii)," created in association with British developer Eurocom.
Something tells me this is an entirely new unrelated game (like Rogue Agent).

This week is a wash, and the coming weekend.
Besides that I'd say the latest I can stay up till on the weeknights is 12 EST, the weekends are always free.
I'm going to hold off buying till tomorrow probably, but I can tell the g/f to stay home for the night and get some good gaming in, that's probably the only time I'll have until next week.

Ask stogie, I've been responsible. I don't play after midnight anymore (I try to get off around 11, usually).
Looks like I have 24 hours to ponder the purchase.

I'll play it for longer than 2 weeks. Much like Fallout 3 was the antithesis of my H3, GoW 2 , and L4D gaming so shall Borderlands be my cool-down game when I'm not up for white knuckle multiplayer action. Dakar multi-ing it up with me is only an added bonus.
...and I'm still waist-deep in Oblivion, which is fast becoming an obsession with me, so much that my iMac hasn't booted into Leopard in weeks.
