Congratulations! My daughter's college greaduation was one of the best days of my life. We can all do a lot of things in life, but successfully creating a full-fledged adult is maybe the best one of them all.
My kid is currently driving between Florida & Denver with her boyfriend, dog & cat, on her way to a new job & hating it. I've been getting some very grumpy texts this evening. . I'm kinda offering my condolences, then sitting back& chuckling, thinking about the 2 cross-country moves I made when I was her age.
We should get Cheerios & Juan Valdez up in here. They're married & living in Seattle, & last I knew Cheerios was very happily employed at OmniGroup. I use her software every day.

reader50 says the forums will stay up past June: http://forums.macnn.com/89/macnn-lou...-will-stay-up/
We should keep the forums going. Cloud computing is pretty cheap now, so I don't think it would be that difficult to sustain the forums monetarily.
Anyhow, maxelson, so glad you're still around. We didn't communicate often, but you helped me find all the Mac parts I needed back in the day. I'll always be greatful for that. Thank you!
I met vmarks on a business trip to Raleigh about 10+ years ago. He's been a family man for a while and is always working on something.
I met starman (what happened to THX? and printer driver whiz) and Apple Pro Underwear (APU) over a decade ago for MacWorld New York, those were fun times. APU and I have become good friends over the years and we hung out many times while living in the Bay area. He's also getting married in October so a big shoutout to him!
I'd like to keep the forums going in any way I can. So much of my history, our history, is in these forums. I feel it's time to start contributing again. Not sure what exactly, but something.
Since the announcement, I still don't understand how MacNN didn't become the MacRumors of today. We had the userbase, and had great Apple-related news. I'm not knocking either of the sites, but at some point years ago, I also started heading towards MacRumors more than MacNN. And I'm not really sure why that started happening.
Geeze, this post sounds like a memorial. Let's just keep the forums running!

The biggest and best thing you guys can do is bring back the users. If you're coming back for the first time in ages, start a conversation! Jump into an existing one!
MacNN's news page is done. The staff is scattering to the winds next week, until I can find an excuse and an ability to get the gang back together.
This place predates my involvement by 16 years. There's no reason if you guys keep coming that it can't last another 20.

THIS!
Over-moderation makes it boring and bland.
That's why I get bored to tears at other Mac forums, like "Mac Rumors".
Can't stand their thin-skinned, activist mods.

Doesn't over-moderation annoy users? When's the last time we had an epic feedback thread?

We'd have more "epic conversations" but after the second infraction they lose their luster.

Wasn't the thread about the sig size pretty epic? I'm sure there were a few.

Epic threads - that was so last decade.
Haven't had one in probably 7-8 years.

well, epic does not have to equal bickering, which aside from the 2-3 people involved, is boring as hell to read.
Angry conversation also has a tendency to make people just not post rather than argue.

Epic threads usually have a healthy dose of silliness. I agree with Andi, two people arguing back and forth ruins threads.

After looking through my infractions from ~2008, it's obvious how much the moderation has eased up/stopped caring in the past few years.

^we also have fewer teenagers who a) need sheltering from bad language/images, or b) post bad things themselves and need admonishment. I mean, how many of you were teenagers when you started here?
I think besson has tried to get banned. I think several people have requested their accounts be banned when they left.

I was at a meet up at Macworld SF 2007. Met Demonhood there in 07 or 08 even.
goodness how the time does fly.

I remember someone asking to get banned, being refused, and then retaliating by posting pictures of naked women.

I didn't get along with the admin at a motorcycle on which I was very active. I picked and prodded until he banned me, then Ca$hed-it and kept coming back under alt accounts until he turned on manual approval for all new accounts. But I had already created backup accounts before all of this went down. Also I changed the images I was hosting on DropBox by adding text so that all of my old threads now had new pictures/message. So he deleted all of my posts, including all of the technical articles I'd written over the past several years.
I created a new forum and all of the active members moved over to it, leaving his forum an abandoned wasteland. Then his backup system failed and the entire forum got corrupted and deleted itself. It was glorious.

Yeah, if there was ever a reason to delete an account, it would be because no one needs to see what I had to say at the age of 13.

I'm trying to get myself banned from a forum now. The weird thing is, it's not happening lol. I've never done anything like this before but the forum owner is a pretentious, condescending prick.

Been a long time. Luckily password was saved. Like many I aged out of the forum, though I still read the front page every day. For a few years though it was home, and always a good place for some chatter.
Thanks to everyone, on both sides of the site. Good memories.

I've used these forums to bail me out of tough spots for years. You have all been an amazing resource, and everyone has always been really helpful. I think I joined in 1999, although I certainly didn't post with the regularity that most of you did. I just enjoyed reading the wit and humor on a daily basis. MacNN has been my homepage for the past 10 years or more, and the forums had been a daily stop up until three or four years ago when the posts began going away. I used to LOVE looking in the marketplace...
Thank you to everyone involved. You've given me a lot of years of entertainment, advice, laughs, and occasionally made me think a little deeper. Take care everyone.
Tom
