hmm. i didnt expect to see jesus lizard on _V's list.

i recently heard that muse band. kind of a more rocking radiohead or something. pretty cool.

my 5 favorite bands? oh christ. i doubt it would be possible for me to build a complete list. here are 5 artists that kick my ass and immediately come to mind because ive heard them recently or they just do. i always put little descriptions in these music threads.

bonnie 'prince' billy - folky guy whos done music under a dozen or so aliases. amazing stuff.
mastodon - as metal as it gets in the 00's. the spirit of sabbath is alive in this one
belle and sebastian - cute pop music.
against me! - anthemic sing along punk rock
converge - metal and hardcore collide. absolutely killer. you can get chicks with this stuff.

Is Frankie Bones still around? I used to love his stuff. Since all of my CD's were stolen 2 years ago I lost everything, which included a live performance from Frankie that was top notch. I never did buy another CD after that, and I have to this day not bought any Techno from Itunes. Kind of turned my back on the whole scene. (getting to old for that all night sh!t) Is Frankie on Itunes? Is Dieselboy? I would be interested in checking them out to see what things are about as of late.

You can't replace Oasis!

I enjoyed Beck's last album, but since my first mistake was buying Mellow Gold, I've been hesitant to purchase any of his other albums.

Edit: Okay, what about Portishead, Franz Ferdinand & Coldplay?

I'm a teen of the 90's, so for me its -

Garbage
Radiohead
Ash

And then for recently, I'd say -

White Stripes
Kaiser Chiefs

To make up the 5.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Ditto. Though I really hated Beautiful Garbage.

STP is another big 90s band for me, and especially one that sucked after their second album.

Currently:

Madrugada
Magnet (OK, so it's really one person with more people playing live)
Big Bang
The Cat Empire
Franz Ferdinand

Oh and my favorite song by far is Imogen Heap's insanely beautiful and powerful Hide and Seek, which I at first dismissed as a "Trance Acapella"

*I feel like I'm back working in the record store again.

My top five:
1. Jennifer Knapp
2. Johnny Cash
3. The refreshments
4. The replacements
5. **The Church

Hmmm... only **one of those is still making music. The others are either dead, taking a break, or broken up.

2. Placebo
3. The Verve

That was tough though. There are so much more I really like depending on my mood, time of day etc.

Must mention Smashing Pumpkins, Ugress, Rammstein...gotta stop...can't...

If I change my way of living, and if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving…

I know the two Daves. Used to work with 'em at a restaurant before they got famous. We hung out quite a bit. I had no idea how good those f*ckers were until thir old band, Scratch Acid, played at a club I ran sound at. Ripped my head right off. Haven't seen 'em in quite a while, though -- just twice since they moved to Chicago.
