Well depending on your set of interests and income it can be fairly accurate.

Well if your interests include "binge drinking" then sure, but that's just a self fulfilling prophecy.

Other than movies and bowling I'm not sure what there really is to do around here during a weekend night.

I can see why people would think that, but when you don't have a girlfriend or wife, live in a place where drinking is celebrated on a weekly basis, and you have cities literally centered around bars, it's really REALLY hard to find anything else to do, unless you want to go to a movie by yourself or something like that. Every single weekend, drinking is THE option around here for EVERYBODY. Say what you will, Wisconsin is different than most states when it comes to drinking (I'm not trying to brag about that either).

Study group? Homework? Is that what YOU do on a Friday or Saturday night when everybody else in the community is out drinking and partying? I'm sorry, but those aren't serious weekend alternatives.

Okay then, how about Guitar Hero?
sdilley: Yes, the past few weekends did consist of homework/studying for me, but that was because finals were approaching. I did take some study breaks and go to someone else's room/house and talk, eat, listen to music, etc.

Ignoring the people around here who look down upon it, you must have friends that are interested in playing it, and its appeal is only temporary. So it might be good for 4 weekends.
And guess what people will be doing while they wait to play.

Exactly. We've had drinking games playing Guitar Hero. Two people go head to head, loser pounds a beer. It's just in our blood I guess.
But in my defense, its not like I drink EVERY night of the week. It's usually just Fri. Sat. and once in a while Thurs. I don't drink much at all durig the week because it's hard to have just one or two (what's the point) and if I drink during the week I don't go to class the next day and I refuse to fall into that trp. I do like just hangin out with friends, listenin to music, watchin movies, eatin, goin to concerts, playing a LOT of Halo, **** like that, but for the most part, alcohol is just involved with everything here. I could sit home every weekend and play Halo and actually enjoy, but what kind of person would that make me.

I'm just asking what is there to go out and do.
So far the only suggestion has been to stay in and play Guitar Hero.

Platteville has nothing. I lived there for almost 2 years. It has lots of bars and house parties, and that's it. Oh, and the lighting of the M.

He's right. I've had friends that moved away and were very suprised at how much people DONT drink. There's a reason Milwaukee's baseball team is called the brewers. There's a reason platteville's strip is comprised of almost entirely bars. There's a reason that Madison is pretty popular. WI loves alcohol.

Good question.
I think a lot of people go see bands on the weekend. That may or not be at the bar and that may or may not involve a decent amount of $.

can you go out, play pool, to a club to listen to music, dance, etc, without drinking? It's possible I think.

No clubs where I live. And I don't dance sober.
I find Pool Halls seedy. Like bowling it gets old after a while. (But its a decent suggestion, as it is cheap)

Well it sounds like there's nothing to do in the midwest but drink, so I'd like to know what people elsewhere do for fun that we don't have here.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a drink on the weekends... everything in moderation!
Mid-week activities for me involve Yoga, Rock Climbing, Swimming, Life Drawing, Cinema, Theatre, etc.
Some weekends me and some mates will hire a car and disapear out of London for a bit, either to the South West or Brighton... you've got to love the UK!

I went out in this:
And my friend had a 5 speed Stratus. They were decently matched and we were able to find other people willing to have fun too.

Yeah, back then gas was under $1.50/gallon so I could afford to drive like that. Not now.

Ignoring the gas money, unless I'd trick it out I'm not interested. And if I did trick it out, I'd take it to more pro stuff than just stoplight to stoplight bullshit on a saturday night.

Indeed. I won't even get the ecutune for my SVX to give me 20 more HP because it hurts the MPG by 3-5mpg.

Haha, tell me about it. Nothing to do here is right. Go to class, go to the fieldhouse and play ball, then nothing...except of course drink. Life is really centered around drinking and partying here. Have a house party, play some beer pong, then go to the bars around 11-12. That's just how it is.
