The DVD for the 2nd half of Season 2 is listed on Amazon for US$32.49. No complete release of Season 2 so far, apparently they want us to buy both halves. No discount for buying both either - total would be US$67.34 today.

Release date is September 19, 2006.

I already bought 2.0, so it's just as well for me.

I guess they did take something special out of Starbuck in the farm episode if she has a baby she didn't know she had.

Based on the clip it seems that boomer considers herself human???!

Do you think all human model cylons were based on real people that they replaced?

if you cloned someone you could have zillions of copies to experiment with and create your hybrid cylon... then when you finalize it, you can clone that as needed when it dies. The cylons bleed, share structure... need to eat... is the only mechanical aspect of them the spine? blood? are they like a parasite in a human body? what???

I just hope this season doesn't into something like what V, the series turned into. I thought last season's ending was pretty darned good - perhaps too good to come back from without getting ridiculous.

I think there is a lot of growth/story potential with where they left off w/ the season finale...

The trailer gives me hope that they are continuing down the same path as season 1 and 2.

Agreed.

This is in stark contrast to The 4400, which ended very stupidly last year, and then began this year's season very stupidly too.

Holy smokes no kidding! That is what got me so excited, you know the next season isn't going to be anything like the first 2 and I LOVE THAT. Don't get me wrong season 1 & 2 are the best shows I have ever seen but it would get tiring after a whole like voyager did with the Kayzon.

I think the writers should be applauded for taking such a risk.

It plays fine in QuickTime Player, but plays like crap embedded in Safari for some reason. And yes, it crashes my Safari too.

So, in Mac OS X just OPTION-click to download the BSG Season 3 preview trailer, and then play it QuickTime.

BTW, I put up the iPod .m4v file, but Safari thinks it's a text file. If I loaded it directly I got jibberish, and if I OPTION-clicked it, Safari appends .txt to it. What gives? In the meantime I've just put it in a .zip file.

EDIT:

If I drop the complete AVI (DivX) file into Safari, it plays fine. I guess Safari just doesn't deal with this particular AVI file very well for streaming.

Also, if I click on the trailer link in Firefox or Flock, it loads the whole file first, and then plays it fine (embedded).

Hmmm... It seems that both the US and Canada won't be releasing the Season 2.5 DVDs until Sept. 19.

(Season 2.0 came out first in the US.)

WTF are they waiting for. Why would they want to force people to try and watch 2.5 so fast before the new season starts? We could have been rewatching them all summer. Makes no sense to me.

Sorta expensive but considering the first season was only like 12 episodes at least you are getting 20 for about the same price.

US$32.49 seems reasonable for 2.5. It's $41.97 (US$37) in Canada

Then again maybe not... I only paid CAD$29.99 (US$26.44) for some of the older seasons of 24.

It's a significant increase in the price. Here is how:

Season 1 DVD set
13 episodes + miniseries (equivalent to 4 episodes)
= 17 episodes for US$44.88
US$2.64 per episode.

Season 2 DVD 2-halfs set
20 episodes (21 if you count the long Pegasus) for US$67.34
US$3.37 per episode
US$3.21 per episode if Pegasus is counted twice.

Either way, it's an approx 25% price increase, with 1-3 lower-quality episodes included. Counting Pegasus as 1.5 episodes, a combined Season 2 at the regular price would be US$54.12

Anyone know exactly what's on this DVD set? Amazon doesn't give much info.

It just says it's 521 minutes, which would be the length of 10 episodes, plus one long episode (Pegasus).

What else is on the DVD?

I hope they have cast and crew interviews, special effects, and bloopers. Those are always great. I liked the Voyager extras.

It will be short on extra content, since there are only three disks.

Disk 1: 176 minutes (Eps 11, 12, 13, 14)
Disk 2: 176 minutes (Eps 15, 16, 17, 18)
Disk 3: 167 minutes (Eps 19, 20 Long, 10 Long, BSG 3 preview)
Total: 519 minutes. (official total is 521)

Episodes count as 44 minutes each. Exception: Season 2 finale will be 66 minutes, Pegasus Long will be ~55 minutes, Season 3 previews approx 2 minutes.

A DVD can have about 180-190 minutes of video content, depending on the number of audio tracks, etc. If all the extra content (except commentaries) is on Disk 3, then there is only room for 10-15 minutes of extra content. That won't even scratch David Eick's video blogs, which would require ~100 extra minutes (20 x 5 min each). So I expect the video blogs to be missing, and just some deleted scenes.

Pegasus Long should have been in the first half. There was plenty of room, and that would free up nearly an hour of space in the 2nd half for extras. When Season 2 is released as a single set, I expect that is how it will be done. If a complete Season 2 is to include all the extras, then they will need seven disks.

Don't tell anyone at the studio's this but if they come out with them in Blu-Ray then I don't care what it costs a season. It is worth it so I am not going to fuss over value per episode.

Haven't we already gone over this? BSG won't be coming to Bluray. Universal is a strong HD-DVD supporter.

For godssake, coudn't they have agreed on a format before introducing both??? Having two competing formats isn't going to benefit anyone except the comany's format that wins two years from now. Idiots. I wish a third format would be introduced next month that would make both HDDVD and BluRay look like yestersday's crap. Makes me so mad to know that I'll have to wait another couple years of buying DVD's to find out which way to go. Idiots.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

I think the only hope would be Bluray/HD-DVD hybrid players. Considering Universal is the leading pusher of HD-DVD, I doubt they'll issue anything in Bluray.

Some juicy info:

http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultim...;f=36;t=005399

"Season Three starts four months after the end of Season Two. The Cylon occupation of New Caprica is in full swing. Baltar is the titular president New Caprica. Some have taken sides, and some are caught in between. One in particular is missing a vital part of his anatomy. It is a dark and challenging beginning to the tale of what happened to these
people on New Caprica."

"Baltar will be spending some time on board a Cylon ship, which will give viewers the opportunity to get to know Cylon culture from the inside-out."

"At the end of Season Two, there were approximately 49,000 colonials, and at the beginning of Season Three, there were only 38,000. Something bad had happened, and this dark season of television will explore that."

"Finally, for those interested in the spin-off CAPRICA, a script has just been submitted to the Sci-Fi Channel by Remi Aubuchon (writer). Moore and Eick have been working closely with Aubuchon to get just the right tone and plotlines set up for the new show. It's a way of exploring the mythos by going back before the stories and thinking about how what happened then set into effect what's happening now."

Further, one series arc will be devoted to finding that part of his anatomy again, as the president has declared it the colonial symbol of human fertility, and vital for the survival of the human race.
