It would be nice if you could put virtual console games on an SD card.

Oh nice. I call Nintendo service because of my Wii with TWO defects and the automated message tells me that the call load is too high and doesn't even give me the opportunity to hold, just to call back another time.

Even MS did a better job.

I'm just curious why someone who would go on for pages and pages about how terrible the Wii is, doomed to failure, riddled with flaws, kills wee puppies, would buy one?

Hope. And I wanted Zelda in widescreen.

I also wanted to get rid of the cube.

Funny how I get the double defect one.

That's what a lot of fanboys see when they read stuff from SWG and I. Most people don't get it.

Actually, I would think that anyone seeing someone make page after page of negative comments about a device would be surprised to see them picking one up right away.

Wii Sports is the killer app right now, Zelda second. Not because of attach rate but amount of time people spent on it. It's rather interesting if you read the comments from other people about their third generation families playing together. It's amazing how one console can bring a joy to whole family. Props to Nintendo for that even though if it's only temporary (although I doubt), they did something really special.

Wii Play (with Duck Hunt, Airplane, etc games) will be the next killer app, coming this Jan-March. Metroid will be second after people realize that it is a beautifully executed Wii FPS with best use of Wii controller.

Whetever you like it or not, Super Smash Bros will always be the killer app when it's out for any Nintendo system. Personally I'm not a huge fan of SSB but I understood how really fun it can be when playing with friends.

Yes I do. But like I said it NEVER comes on for anything only a .25 second flash when a disk is put in. No other time no matter what. That is the 3rd and last time I am explaining it.

Anyway, called Nintendo. They are sending me a new Wii 3-4 business days shipping so next Wens or Thurs, no apologies.

Ask about component cables. Nintendo said they are backordered and they aren't shipping any till later this month and not to stores.

Mine only seems to flicker when I turn the system on. It doesn't come on any other time, although I haven't tried using the email thing.

So I'm trying to figure out when you expect it to be on. Or is mine defective as well?

Actually to make Karma even weirder this is what happened.

On launch day I went to every store in Toronto starting at 8am stood in lines and after 7 hours still didn't get one.

Called stores every day after that no dice.

Checked "The source by Circuit City" (formally Radio Shack) online site and everyone said sold out.

Then on a whim I called a Source store they had close to my house and ask. He said they were JUST unpacking a shipment of ONE and I had them put it aside for me.

When I get there they really did only get ONE Wii 1 extra remote and Zelda/raving rabbits.

I took the Wii and the remote and the sales guy was complaining to the other employee's that he wanted to but it for his nephew but "so much for that". Sucker.

Anywho, the disk error only happens sometimes so I can still play it if I am patient getting a game to run.

My experience so far coming soon...

It's *supposed* to only flicker when you turn it on. Then it will only come on when you get a message, from what I understand. This is normal behavior, and NOT a defect.

I thought if the system is OFF when you put a disk in it lights up for a few seconds? No?

Mine only flashes except when there's a message.

Doesn't really matter at this point, does it? It has worse problems than that.

That's what's happening with me. The disc drive is supposed to light up when you boot it and when you receive something in WiiConnect24.

Ok so if it doesn't come on when I turn on the system. And it doesn't come on when it sucks up a disk. What good is it?

The CD drive light that is supposed to help you see where to stick the disk is actually a message indicator light?

Not it is true it does do that for messages although I haven't tried it on mine.

I remember Nintendo saying that it is obviously to illuminate the slot so you can see where to put the disk in a dark room and that after a while it fades. The setting also allow you to ajust the brightness.

So it only being on for messages makes no sense.

Nintendo. They also said they didn't want to leave it on all the time to distract you.

Are you saying it is just meant as a message indicator?

Yes, I remember seeing the same thing, actually, but as it is implemented (at least on my machine) I don't see how it can possibly help you see where to put the disc.

This is what Nintendo has to say about it on their web site:

Disc slot light

The Disc slot light illuminates briefly when:

The Wii console is turned on.

WiiConnect 24 is turned on and you are receiving new data, such as messages, and you have selected "Bright" or "Dim" in the "Slot Illumination" settings for WiiConnect24.
The Disc slot light does not stay illuminated during game play or using other features of the Wii console.

"The Disc slot light illuminates briefly when:

So since mine doesn't that means it is busted. That solves that.

Apparently you can do both. However, this video shows the process taking FOREVER. He copies Donkey Kong that he downloaded to an SD card and it takes like a minute and a half. I'd hate to see how long something like Mario 64 would take.

Games are apparently tied to the console they are downloaded on, though, so I guess the only reason to do this is to backup the game or to make room on the console if you have downloaded a lot of games. However, I've not positive if the games can be run from an SD card or not. I would hope you could and you're not limited to just storing them on the card.

Nintendo can change the way blue light behave through firmware, not hardware so don't be too concerned about it. Nintendo probably will adjust it in future firmware.

So now it has personally happened to two major game sites. IGN and Kotaku.

I am astonished how many people are unable to move their hand without throwing whatever is in it, with or without a strap. Is the Wiimote covered in oil or something?

Sweat. My sister was saying her hand got sweaty also because she was getting competitive in the bowling.

The places around here sell what appear to be rubber sleeves for the Wiimote. You might check those out if you're worried about sweat.

You don't find it the tiniest bit silly? You go on and on about why nobody should buy it and then you buy one yourself and act in total shock when you don't like it. Little bit hypocritical. I could see if you two actually approached this rationally but lets face facts: you hated the thing before any info was even out.

Oh, and you can stop throwing the "fanboy" label around. I don't own a Wii, I owned a cube but gave it away, and the only nintendo product I do own is a first gen DS. I will not defend a company or product till my dying breath, and I certainly won't bash one incessantly for the sheer ecstasy of it.

Thats the problem when these two get their Wiis, all they will do is complain about it on here and tell us how much they suck. i was hoping they wouldnt buy one, seeing as how they have been bitching about Nintendo since i joined these boards. Sad part is, that most of us who enjoy these products have to read their whiny-bitchy posts everytime there's a topic on anything Nintendo.

If HD is as big a deal as people make it out to be, then the people who want it either haven't bought a Wii yet or would be willing to sell their old one and buy an HD version, presumably.
