Men certainly appear to be horribly shallow. A question that in no way helps this idea is "What type of women do you go for?"
I would answer this with something like "I like smart women with a dry sense of humour;" and then prattle on for a while in more detail. For some reason we continue to allow most men to get away with simply picking a hair colour.
I feel like we're discussing different things.

I feel like you're talking about verbalizing, and the like.

Let me ask you this....

Presuming you consume porn, do you pick based on the personality and sense of humor of the players, or are you engaging in an extensive mental critique of appearance?

It was only years later when I was reflecting on how picky I'd become and realizing that I'd never look at someone like that again. This girl wasn't unhealthy weight or anything, just fat by today's American standards. I've realized that my exposure to too many people combines with media has created an unnatural condition we aren't evolved for... It's artificially made me feel like a chief at the subconscious level in society as it has many men; flipping on that lizard switch to make us more picky than necessary due to the fact we think we have rock star access to plethora of women. That said, Im still not as picky as the average woman, I've just slid the bar a little bit on height & weight.
I feel like this is reversed. It's why I keep saying "chicken and egg".

Your brain doesn't go "I want to become chief" and then once you attain that go "now that I am chief, it is to my advantage to bang like a rockstar".

Your brain goes "I wanna bang like a rockstar, and this is what acts as motivation to expend effort becoming chief".

Society doesn't make you desire to be chief. You were born with that desire. It's probably what drives you to perform.

Hmm.

I'm not sure an honest answer to this question will get us very far. What I click on is one thing, what I enjoy is another.

Like I say I have preferences and I favour girls who look a bit more real over the bleached blondes with massive fake tits and foot-long fingernails, but thats probably in part because I'd expect them to be higher maintenance or just have less in common with me.
In purely superficial terms, there are girls who are too thin and girls who are too fat but I wouldn't say I'd criticise either of them for being whatever they are.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

What's confusing me here is this construction:

I may not have any interest in a person due to being too fat or too thin, but oh no no no, I'm not being critical.

How is it possible to even reach a determination without being critical?

How can one say they have preferences... about anything... without being critical?

Maybe I'm misreading, but "massive fake tits" sounds pretty damn critical.

Only if you don't like massive fake tits.

The difference is this. If I'm criticising you, I might say that you need to lose weight. Without any qualifier. But to say that I'm not attracted to you because you are heavier than my preference isn't a criticism, even though it could be taken as one.

Its like if you tell someone they need to change something about themselves not because you would prefer it, but because everyone will prefer it.

What does saying anything have to do with it?

Everybody's getting hung up on the word.

Let me come up with a new term.

Every woman I see gets given a "****ability index". I don't share it, but to somehow bring this back to the OP, I mentally rate the person's physical attractiveness.

What I'm asking the men here... this doesn't happen to you?

As for massive fake tits, I can't stand them... this is known in the parlance as a criticism, no?

I maintain not only is this a criticism, it remains so regardless of whether I verbalize it.

Sizing up somebody's attractiveness is natural, but attaching their value to you as a person based on this attractiveness is something entirely different. Sometimes in life we are just looking for physical relationships... If both people are looking for the same thing, no problem, but to hire somebody because they are hot, or basically try to surround yourself with people that are hot is kind of a different thing to me.

The only difference is the degree to which one acts on their impulses.

Precisely. Love is what we make ourselves feel. Operating on my most base impulses I'd have teenage, bubble-butt, b-cup, underwear models around all day and night. It would be like Caligula meets Victoria's Secret. That's what the darkest animal part of me, the caveman, wants. But I'm not that part of me, at least mostly not. Even though I can hear it, that doesn't mean I have to obey. That's what makes me more than just an animal.

Blame TV and Kennedy for that. Poor sweaty Nixon looked like a chump. I do not know why we continue to hold our politicians to movie-star fluff standards.

It's interesting to note that the definition of "attractive" has also changed over time and different cultures. Plump used to mean wealthy enough to have extra to eat, and also more likely to survive a long winter.

Women in the ancient Egyptian culture were also the first to shave all their body hair off (and then, inexplicably, draw some of it back on). They were every bit as obsessed with grooming and hygiene as women of today.

only when their owners died, usually they just worshipped them.

You are that part of you, just like you're also the part of you which decides to combat it. Rejecting it doesn't make it any less "you".

Further, it's not as if anyone is perfect at anything. While you may not accidentally slip into a Roman orgy, the tone of your voice may change when the Victoria's Secret model starts chatting you up.

If I followed my baser impulses I'd raid your orgy, make off with Laetitia Casta, and dump the rest for being too angular. I can't say this desire isn't "me", nor can I claim it isn't hyper critical.

Sadly, my hyper critical male gaze sees armpit boob as a turnoff.

Plus, Ankhs are super cheesy and played out. She probably smokes cloves and is into corny 90s goth bands and Anne Rice novels.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I think it's two dimensional side-boob.

I didn't reject it, I said it isn't mostly me. Personally I'm fond of that side, the same way a doting owner loves their slightly psycho, slavering, one-eyed pit bull.

She's not my type, my caveman prefers blondes and redheads. The desire is part of you, but doesn't sum up who you are.

I was using "reject" as a rewording of "not to obey". I meant nothing by it beyond what you intended with your original statement.

As for altering your behavior, let me put it this way... even if you are somehow immune, have you not noticed this happen with other men?

As for Ms. Casta, my point was dumping the rest of the VS models for being bony, while not the sum of my being, is being hyper critical. As is going "meh" over Ms. Casta for having the wrong color hair... which isn't the sum of your being, but if in this fantasy something as insignificant as hair color makes for a no go?

This criticism is walking and talking like a duck.
