I know its been a while since they killed someone "important", but I can't help but wonder if the arrival of Lady M and that resurrection trick that whatshisface can pull might come into play. Otherwise all the mystery around his lineage is a pointless dead end. Unless he has maternal half-siblings. Or maybe its just the steel after all.
I have a feeling they'll try to burn him, but they can't (his body won't burn), then she'll raise him. He can't die, Kit still has (at least) another year on his contract.
and the walk was as fitting a punishment as I've seen. Anywhere. Ever. Just as satisfying as it was in the book.

It's quite telling that Lady M has sacrificed not just a king, but his whole family.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
Inconclusive until Season 6 airs. When Starbuck vanished, the show runners had Katee Sackhoff audition for other jobs. In case anyone asked her.
That would be a continuity error. When Jon fought the dead guy in Commander Mormont's quarters, he burned his hand throwing the lantern.
Yeah, I personally think that him saying he isn't coming back is a ruse, too many other pieces are in play to support his return.
Dany probably would have burned her hand early in the series too, she hadn't started to reach her potential yet (it's a magic that evolves and is directly connected to magic from the "LoL", as are dragons). I don't believe their fireproof nature is always-on from birth, favor with the LoL is rather spotty, at best. Her brother was a Targ, obviously, but he didn't fare well.

There is nothing in the books to indicate that the Lord of Light is involved in the Targaryens being fireproof and controlling dragons. Control of the dragons is directly genetic (one of the novellas makes this explicit) and at least Dany assumes that being fire-proof is related to that as well.
Jon's survival or not is very much open, in my book, and if I had to bet, I would say that he lives. GRRM has made it extremely clear every time he kills a major character, and this time he leaves it open - that is a hint that we have not seen the last of him.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
It seemed apparent from the books that the powers of the LoL priests increased significantly once Danys hatched her dragons. I think it is a bit speculative to say how they are connected or what is the chicken or the egg, but the dragons seem to have come first.
Mankind's only chance is to harness the power of stupid.
I don't think he is in the show, but there is a priest of LoL in King's Landing in the first book, and he is basically a subject of ridicule. He lights his sword on fire by pouring some flammable liquid over it - not exactly magic. Lately, LoL priests are quite a bit more powerful.

He is in the show - Arya met him in Season 3. Thoros of Myr. The flaming sword made an appearance against the Hound.
I've been thinking about the Jon question. What's happening at The Wall is incredibly important now. The Army of the Dead will reach the wall sometime next season. So the story has to keep following events there. If Jon is gone, who would it follow?
Dolorous Edd - best choice, but a secondary character. We know nothing about him.
Samwell Tarly - departed with Gilly, on a mission that makes sense. An army needs medics.
Alliser Thorne - hated today, unable to form alliances.
Davos Seaworth - secondary character. Has nothing to do now, but can't handle a sword due to missing fingers.
Lady Melisandre - secondary character. Previously only interested in Jon at the wall.
So if the Lord of Light is also the Lord of Fire and Dragons, then which god is providing the juice to the Night's King? Is there a Lord of Dark and Ice that we have yet to 'meet'?
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

The WW with the icy crown (maybe it's his avatar or such, and Drogon will be the avatar for the LoL)?
Edit: it's kind of like Babylonian gods, neither is particularly appealing but the LoL is the lesser of the two evils.

But the LoL has priests like Melisandre and the guy who gets resurrected a lot, plus dragons and their riders. Someone else alluded to the Nights King being a Stark ancestor practicing dark magic. Which presumably comes from some dark god or other who doesn't have a following in Westerns. Yet.

There are lots of gods in this world. The Andals worship "the seven", which are what we have seen as the milque-toast religion in the series every now and then, but in the North , on the Iron Islands, and in old Valyria, we have seen other gods worshipped.
There is an issue, however: Resolving major plot points with magic only works if the magic system is reasonably well defined. That is not we have - we have seen no limits to what the LoL priests can do, or what the WW can do, and there is no structure to the magic. You can't have Mellissandre just walking in and burning WW alive as a solution. You either have a battle with dragons (we understand what dragons can do), define some serious limits on what the LoL priests can do, or solve it some other way entirely.

Maybe Qyburn, the guy who "recruited" Ser Robert Strong.

Yay! Everyone dies! Anymore I wonder if I'm only watching to see who dies next.
Is anyone else distracted by the fact that the series has now caught up with the books and Mr. Martin is now being rushed to finish the next one? You wonder if the series will adversely affect his storytelling or that he will switch gears or even eliminate things just to get it done.
The series has been in production for 5+ years now. Martin should have been writing all along instead of having so much fun with the TV people. At least in Season 5, he didn't write an episode. So he could concentrate on the books.
He has provided the show runners with the outlines of the final books. Including outlines of the characters' stories, and how they end up.
Location: Iowa, how long can this be? Does it really ruin the left column spacing?

The show's producers confirmed they've forked their own storyline from that of the books. No need for Martin to keep writing for the show's sake.

He took 5 years to write A Feast for Crows, long before the series was a thing.
I just don't think he knows where he's headed right now. He didn't plan to tell the story in A Feast for Crows/most of A Dance with Dragons at all, and only did so because he had trouble moving on with some storylines without doing so. I hoped that without that hanging over him, he would get with the program and write the rest faster (the first books took him 2 years each), but nope. It's going to be 5 years again.

Finally saw the end of this season, which got me to look something up in A Feast for Crows. I stumbled upon a comment from GRRM, about where the rest of the characters are, and reassurance that they were all in A Dance with Dragons, "coming out next year". That book took six effing years to write. He has no concept of how long these books take.
Anyway: the World book makes it clear that the White Walkers existed before the First Men came to Westeros, which is before Valyria was founded. They, and the giants and most other creatures we've seen, are natural, not magical.

My wife almost shat herself at the end, then all of us watching (some 15 or so) cheered and pumped their fists.
Seriously, at the exact moment Jon "awoke", there was a clap of thunder outside, it was an amazing moment. Then we partied like it was 1999.

I'm not sure how GoT could throw in any more politicking and war.
Current war prospects:
The Army of the Dead is marching, presumably to Castle Black.
The other two Night's Watch fortresses may not be cool with all the Free Folk in Castle Black.
Idiot Bolton may take a kill squad to Castle Black.
The Tyrells may go to war to free Loras and Queen Margery from the sparrows.
The coup in Dorne may result in war with the Lannisters and/or crown.
The Iron Bank hasn't been paid yet. They may fund some other enemies of the crown.
Mereen may be attacked by the other cities of Slaver's Bay.
We haven't heard anything about the Brotherhood Without Banners in a while.

Oh, and there's the king's moot in the Iron Isles, you know that won't be bloodless. I'm thinking Theon is going to be heavily involved in that.

Jon to leave the Night's Watch, but I guess he technically fulfilled his duty.

I now genuinely believe that Daenerys and Snow will unite in marriage (he likes wild girls) and will make children who will be resistant to fire and will be able to hill white walkers! #snowdragons
I guess it doesn't make sense to spoil things anymore...
There are three dragons. Dany clearly bonds with Drogon, the black one, but there are two more. This matches the situation when the Targaryens first arrived in Westeros - three dragons, but also three Targaryens, siblings. If we are to repeat that once again, we need three Targaryens. Dany and possibly Jon are two. There are more possibles who haven't showed up in the show yet (you thought you had seen all of the books? Nope. Some storylines have passed the level we are at in the books, but they haven't shown all the storylines from AFFC and ADWD). This hints that we may be headed for a rerun of that original conquest.
Love is not a requirement when it comes to marriage in this world. Remember that the peace after Robert's Rebellion was forged by three marriages, all negotiated, only one turned out happy. It probably fits the story better if Jon and Dany and (not telling) are in a loveless marriage.

I should have put it together but I didn't, I blame myself. I thought he'd be pardoned, in a sense, by Daenarys, marrying him to shore up the North (after he destroys the Boltons and takes the Warden mantle). So I suppose one of the dragons will fly off and seek him out. Likely Rhaegal (makes sense).

Rhaegal is the green one, though. Viserion is the white one, which fits better with Lord Snow (and the other claimant is also most closely related to Rhaegar).

Rhaegar was Jon's father... his first born (though a bastard).

Spoiler for ADWD book that has not occurred in the TV series yet:
Possibly not. The possible claimant that is introduced in ADWD is Aegon VI Targaryen, who was Rhaegars first son by Elia Martell. The story as we know it is that both "trueborn" children of Rhaegar, Aegon and his elder sister Rhaenys, died in the sack of King's Landing (along with their mother). In ADWD, a man identifies himself as Aegon VI, claiming that he survived because Varys replaced the royal child with another babe. Since Aegon was a newborn at this point, Gregor Clegane (who did the deed) did not notice, and since the babe was murdered by smashing his head, nobody could identify him afterwards.
If this is true, Aegon is slightly older than Jon. Jon was born as the fight outside the tower was happening - Aegon's mother was already dead at this point.
Bastard or trueborn may also not be correct - the Targaryens practiced polygamy historically, and we don't know that Lyanna was truly kidnapped and raped. They may truly have been in love - in fact Ned's actions imply that in a few spots - and may thus have gotten married willingly.
Of course this may be a false lead, and Varys or someone else may simply have convinced a boy with roughly the right colors that he is Aegon to cause some trouble for the Lannisters.

Perhaps for the books, but I believe the showrunners are going a different route; like when they left out Lady Stoneheart, some characters simply won't make it to the small screen. If that character was going to be important for the climax of the series, they would have already been revealed (we're already into the next-to-the-last season). Snow will be the only living male Targaryen heir, they have far too much invested in that (snowfall on the Iron throne). "Who will ride the 3rd dragon?" Who says someone will need to? Bran will likely be able to control it from the other side of the world, by the time he's done. While the overall story will be the same, there will be sizeable departures from the book series (there have been already), if it's ever finished.
