@P
Yeah, Italy and speeding: go with the flow, that seems to be the rule there. I made quite a few Italians very angry by sticking to the speed limit at a construction site. It was on a smaller road in the countryside where they couldn't overtake me because of oncoming traffic. That might have been an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Italian culture of using colorful and imaginative swear words

I was going to say something similar.
Roads have a “natural” speed. That’s what I usually go. I don’t really factor the actual speed limit into it.
On long trips I’ll go an unnatural speed.

Yeah, I’ve also had the experience in a different country where we’re all speeding and the rental car (I.e. me) gets pulled over while the locals keep rushing on by. Got a $650 ticket for just trying to stop everyone else from riding my bumper, but guilty of the crime of wanting to return at some point in the future. Now I just do the speed limit and **** the locals...

Any advice on driving on snow tires when it’s too warm?
I pushed it long enough I’m going to have to drive a few miles in the 60s (15-20C) to pick up my all-seasons and get to the shop.

It’s not a big problem.
The biggest issue is that your snow tires will wear down much faster at warm temperatures, because of the softer rubber compound.
Other than that, you are ok. The reverse (summer tires in cold temperatures) is far worse.
I, too, haven’t put on my summer (i.e. all season) tires.
Once I do, it will snow one more time. Guaranteed. Planning to make it all happen in the next week or two :-)

Luckily, this’ll all be street driving, and it’s congested enough around here side streets are faster, so I’ll have constant stop signs curbing my top speed.
Thanks, all!

You're fine. If you get aggressive they might squawk a bit more but it's not a real issue. Summers went on last week for me.
My wife's summers are stored above a currently immobile car, so I need to get that thing going and out of the way so I can get her summers down. The summers for the BMW are also stored above a car that's semi-mobile, but since the BMW is the first immobile car, I'm not in a rush on that one.

Just got the all seasons put on.
They didn’t rotate them.
Is the problem I didn’t ask, or that I need to start going to a new place?
Both?

Why would they rotate tires they're just putting on? Install tires, let car down. Jack car back up, move new tires to different locations, drop car again. Normally I'd call that "padding the customer's bill".

are your tires marked, so they would know the position they were in at the end of last season?

They were supposed to be, but AFAICT, they didn’t do that, even though I asked them to. Another reason I think this may be crap service.
That said, the spare is obviously new. Seems to me at the least that should have gone on.

If you asked and they didn't do it, I'd be annoyed. If you didn't ask, I assume whoever they have throwing tires on work vans isn't paid to think critically and wouldn't be inclined to care.

I don’t have a depth gauge. I can mainly tell because the unused spare didn’t get put into the rotation.

That makes sense. I was going to, but got short-circuited by the discussion turning to whether I wanted to just wait an hour and get it back rather than leave it overnight as originally planned.

One more thing...
They couldn’t find the tool to drop the spare.
Last time it was used was when they put on the winters.
Seems to me like the mother****ers must have stolen it last time.

Here’s my secondary question.
Am I at least correct in my thinking there is no situation involving a seasonal swap where the outgoing tires shouldn’t get labeled, and the incoming tires shouldn’t get rotated?
I mean, isn’t doing it any other way basically wrong?

If I were doing it at home, I'd label the spare to make sure it's rotated into service (assuming a full-sized spare). Wouldn't bother with the others unless they showed uneven wear. I'd rely on randomness for them to end up in different locations each time.

I would have been fine with randomness. I’m stuck with it anyway because they didn’t label them last season. Maybe some extra points for checking which pair is more inflated.
Just put the goddamn, full-size spare in the rotation

At the least, they’re not guilty of this.
But they are guilty of not realizing the tool was actually there.
Me too, but I feel I have the excuse of not working at a tire shop.

Decided maybe their service wasn’t too bad, and went back to the same place.
Get the impression whoever didn’t find the tool the first time is gonna get a paddlin.

Well I'd hope someone is this thread is capable of proper torquing.

I'm on my second season on the used Blizzaks my friend was throwing away. An Escalade on all seasons that wasn't even trying pulled away from me from a stop when I was trying. These things are about toast.
