Well, I'd like for it not to be. Would you find it annoying and/or dumb if people just started referring to all computers and software on the computer as "Windows" because they felt that this was a good nickname?

Maybe you should make it clear that you're airing your opinion there, rather than making it sound all fact-like.

The implication of dumb-people aside (So, am I dumb for calling Wikipedia Wiki for short?) what about saying Band-Aids for adhesive bandages?
Anyway, it'd be more like referring to a Mac as PC, which it is, really.

Interesting. 10 spaces and only one displays. I never knew the forum was doing that.
OAW
PS: I'm still going to double space after a period though. The forum may do this but not everything does. Email, Word, etc. Or maybe it's a practice that's just too ingrained to change at this stage in the game.

At least since the redesign, I think. Have to ask the admins to be sure.

Maybe you're right, this is futile...
You're not dumb for calling the Wikipedia "wiki" for short, you're dumb for other reasons!

According to the MLA, single-spacing is the way to go:
Publications in the United States today usually have the same spacing after a punctuation mark as between words on the same line. Since word processors make available the same fonts used by typesetters for printed works, many writers, influenced by the look of typeset publications, now leave only one space after a concluding punctuation mark. In addition, most publishers' guidelines for preparing electronic manuscripts ask authors to type only the spaces that are to appear in print.
Because it is increasingly common for papers and manuscripts to be prepared with a single space after all punctuation marks, this spacing is shown in the examples in the MLA Handbook and the MLA Style Manual. As a practical matter, however, there is nothing wrong with using two spaces after concluding punctuation marks unless an instructor or editor requests that you do otherwise.
But I'm still gonna keep putting two spaces after periods. It really does make text easier to read, even with proportional fonts and word processors and all that stuff.

It's self-centered to start all your sentences with "I".

Double-spacing just strikes me as inefficient.

It gets better. The references for many of the entires just seem to lead to the person stating an opinion, rather citing a source.
