They should build their own space shuttle, launch into space, then return and attempt to land on a Veyron that has valuable paintings in it THEN coast the whole lot into a piano. And everything is aflame with whale oil.

Zero ****s given. I'm simply overjoyed that the "progressive" Left will no longer be in control of their show.

Less fantasy. More real cars. With this new budget they will be able to thoroughly road test the important cars that we all want to know about. Vauxhall Adam's, Kia Picante's etc. We need to know turning circles, mpg, boot space etc and with this budget we should be able to get just that.
This space for Hire! Reasonable rates. Reach an audience of literally dozens!
Heh. Nope. Though I'm sure they'll blow up quite a few of those. Woohoo!

Funny. My RA is flaring more than normal, but otherwise I'm the same a$$hole I've always been.

After rumors just before Christmas, it seems that the new co-hosts of Top Gear really will be Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris and David Coulthard. I'm really, really excited about this, I am a big fan of Harris's videos and I found the Top Gear episodes involving Sabine Schmitz very entertaining.

Hell yes, Harris! He's the only reason I'd watch it.

Monkey won't say anything about it, so I guess that in itself is saying something.

BBC has announced that Matt Leblanc, who was on some TV series a while back, will be co-presenter with Evans. They haven't officially confirmed Sabine Schmitz, but it seems highly likely that she's the third.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
and Chris Harris closed up his Patreon account, due to a claimed conflict of interest, so he's still a possibility too.

Huh, where did Matt LeBlanc come from? And I'm still waiting for confirmation that Chris Harris is involved. All signs point to it (including the lack of uploads to his channel), but still I'd like to know for sure.

Matt is a good choice - he's likable, likes cars, appeared on the real Top Gear at one time... but I won't watch, it's just not Top Gear without the three stooges.

But that doesn't mean it'll be worse
Change is a fact of life, and quite literally the worst that can happen is that we get another good car show out of it.

True. It may blow our minds. But no.

Boring reviews of boring cars? No way. They know they have to go bigger and better and with more hosts they can do more reviews in more places and more challenges. I can't wait.
I'm afraid he's right, I see this going to the Fifth Gear formula, especially given whom they've hired. It'll be big on factual reviews and very low on shenanigans. I'll watch Harris review sports cars, for sure, because he's the best, but this won't be anything like Clarkson's Top Gear.

I think we should be giving them the benefit of the doubt. It's clear that they will not (and should not!) just try and perpetuate the concept of Top Gear during the Clarkson years. And I reckon it'll take them a season or two settle in.
Honestly, in recent years, I found Clarkson's, May's and Hammond's “shenanigans” a bit repetitive and boring — a little too much reality TV and too little focus on cars. Just make the car the star of the series, and I think you have a solid car show.

I have no doubt it'll be entertaining, if you're a car person, but Top Gear was a phenomenon because it attracted people who weren't. As I said, I'll watch it for Harris' reviews because I've followed him for years, he's the kitty's titties for hooning, but I hope they aren't expecting an audience that's anywhere close to the size Clarkson, May, and Hammond drew in.
The best Harris video:

It would be a waste of buying the format if they didn't try but I don't see it working without someone who can emulate Clarkson's mix of sarcasm, ego and controversy. What they don't want is someone who has to get approval for every joke or comment about a new car from BBC legal. Clarkson could say what he wanted about cars because he has years of industry clout built up. None of the new guys can do that.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Sounds just like Chris Evans to me. He may have toned it down a bit in recent years but (having worked briefly with him in the past) he's got all three of those qualities in spades.

I think we are more likely to get the blander, Radio 2 Evans than the TFI Friday version. I sense the BBC are looking to avoid controversy at all costs at the moment.

At least from my perspective, the controversy aspect is limited more to Britain where people are aware of the BBC and where the British tabloids are looking for a story. Outside of the UK we don't see him in the news, we don't see his articles or books, just his character on Top Gear.
Why don't we all wait for the first season and see what it's like? I don't even think it is smart to try and continue the show using the exact same recipe, so some people won't like it because their favorite 3 characters aren't part of it. Judging by the line-up (the numbers and types of presenters), the concept will surely be different.

I don't get what the story here is supposed to be: he didn't get one job, so he quit another? Unlike the first story, I don't see how this is an indication of how things are going in Top Gear land.

I've heard tales of Evans being very impressed with himself, this doesn't surprise me at all.

More of an indication of the BBC land than Top Gear land. Between what happened with Clarkson, new TG going tits up, and the Jimmy Savile case now resulting in Tony Blackburn being sacked because his version of events is different to theirs for something that happened in 1971, things are not good at BBC Towers. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35677063
