An actor who doesn't end up on a doomed production at some point isn't trying hard enough.

Ok, seriously, dude...come back to reality.
$2 million, no footage, not a single frame filmed, and they're already out of money.
YOUR MONEY.

YOUR MONEY.
They have the gear (and location) which is where the lion's share of the money went, they don't need a lot more than that. Right now they just need to film the acted scenes, the shots that are all-cgi are either complete or being made as we speak. "not a single frame filmed" is just rubbish, but I already know that your butthurt will make you say anything. As for the $, I spent more on comic books last month than I gave to Axanar. It's pretty comical, you're much more worried about that aspect than I am.

You were the one making it a Big Dealâ„¢ that you gave so much money to Axanar.
Now they have none.
And nothing to show for it.
And I can't tell you how hilarious this whole situation is. What's probably funnier is how you're hiding the fact that you don't care. I'm sure you do. It's a bad investment.
And if a single frame was filmed, how was that miraculously done if...
Right now they just need to film the acted scenes
So...NOT A SINGLE FRAME WAS *FILMED*.

No, YOU'VE made a "Big Dealâ„¢" over it, like the butthurt Paramount fan you are, I mention being a substantial backer once and you've since lost what's left of your mind. Come to think of it, I've actually spent more on a weekend bar tab. At any rate, by the way you're behaving here, you care far more than I do about this whole thing, which is why you come back screaming and wetting your pants over any small scrap of news regarding Axanar you can find. Hell, I wouldn't even need to read news about it, I know you'll go out and fetch it for me.
Oh, and you do realize they're rendering entire scenes in CGI, they have the systems for that (as evidenced by their very recent teaser trailer) which was what some of the $$ to start the studio went towards, without "filming" anything, right?

Dr. Evil: Our early attempts at a tractor beam went through several preparations. Preparations A through G were a complete failure. But now, ladies and gentlemen, we finally have a working tractor beam, which we shall call... Preparation H!!
Scott laughs.
Dr. Evil: What?
Scott: Why don't you just call it Operation Ass Cream, ass?
Dr. Evil: I-I'm sorry, did you want some ice cream?
Scott: Yes, I'd love some chocolate ass cream.
Dr. Evil: Perhaps later.
Number Two: Dr. Evil, I love your plan.
Dr. Evil: Yah, eh?
Frau: Ja, Doctor. It's a really good plan.
Dr. Evil: Yes Frau, on the whole, I think Preparation H feels good.
Scott starts chuckling uncontrollably.
Dr. Evil: (irriated) What is it now?
Scott: No, nothin'. You know what, I agree. Preparation H does feel good...on the hole.

And that episode where Dr. Crusher falls in love with the alien who changes gender. That episode pissed me off. Fantastic opportunity just tossed out the window.
To be clear, I'm not saying they should have had Crusher dyke out just because, but they should have done, I dunno... something with the idea of what makes us who we are being independent from the meatbag.

Makes a lot of sense, though. He knows that Roddenberry wrote his character as a straight man, and now it's been retconned to appease a very vocal minority. Such shenanigans piss off a lot of people. Gay/lesbian characters are great, start new ones, but taking established identities and "gaying them up" is pandering of the worst sort.

The problem with this whole situation is that Pegg even said that Sulu was straight in TOS, and in this timeline, "Whatever magic ingredient determines our sexuality was different for Sulu in our timeline." - which is almost a slap in the face to gay people since it's not something you can turn on and off. If these characters are supposed to be the genetic equivalent of their TOS counterparts, then there should be no changes to their character. That included Spock having a girlfriend (what's up with that?).
But people are praising the decision. I don't because I f*ing hate the changes to the timeline. Spock and Uhura in a relationship, specifically Spock with a girlfriend, Vulcan destroyed, Pike as a mentor to Kirk when he should be roughly the same age (pre-timeline change btw), and a few other things (Budgineering).
And now Sulu is gay only so they can tick a box.
Proof, Pegg: "We could have introduced a new gay character, but he or she would have been primarily defined by their sexuality, seen as the ‘gay character’, rather than simply for who they are, and isn’t that tokenism?"
So that was their point all along - TO TICK A BOX.

The bigger problem was that they can't make a new character, gay or not. Too risky, not enough time in a movie to get Joe Viewer interested in them or flesh them out as full interesting people. Let's face it, new characters are the new red shirts, and you know they are going to die.

I'll take that a step further - this may be the last movie in the JJ franchise, so who cares? If they mention this on screen for three seconds, so what? How does it help Star Trek? How does it help the story? Answer to both: it really doesn't.
I just don't like rewriting characters, even in alternate timelines.

I presumed we were talking about a new character in the sense of not one of the core characters.
And if we're going to talk about shitting on a character... wow.
Might the reason I didn't realize this was the same character be because in one movie she's the person who forces Kirk to confront his personal behavior for the first time like an adult, while in the other when she's not T&A, she's a walking plot device?

"overwhelmingly positive" In a vacuum they're fine, as a ST property they're an embarrassment.
The new Ghostbusters reboot is very similar; on its own it's okay, I guess, but compared to previous endeavors it's shockingly poor.

I don't understand why you're being such a cynical jerk about Star Trek. Seriously, go taint another thread. You haven't even seen the movie yet.
As for Ghostbusters, it's gotten a 78% rating on RT. That's damn impressive. "shockingly poor"? What planet are you from?
