I'm bitter.
I agree, the gaming section has gone quiet. maybe isolate "mac games" (since this is a Mac forum) and leave the console stuff in the lounge ?

That's exactly what I'd prefer, but I don't see them going back on this one. I'm afraid violent revolution might be our only hope.

What's so hard about discussing things in the Games forum? Sure, for lounge regulars, I can see how you might just want everything in one place, but anybody who doesn't go to the lounge on a regular basis wouldn't even know that the discussion existed. Are people just not using the User Control Panel to check up on their subscribed threads? If you just go to the lounge and read the first page of threads, I could see how this topic could be lost, but otherwise it shouldn't matter what forum it's in -- it'll still appear in your subscriptions.

I never...repeat...never go to my control panel for anything other than changing my sig. That's it.
Almost everyone who posts in the games forum are frequent loungers, as well. Really, the only threads that gaming discussion took place in was this one and the Nintendo Wii thread. Why did this change in the first place?
I'm not whining. If you guys never change it, that's okay. I just preferred less hassle, which results in me rarely talking about games anymore on MacNN.
Just chalk me up as being lazy.

Um, why not? It's really handy to see when the threads you have participated in have responses.

I never go to the control panel for anything but signatures either. Easier to go to the lounge and see the green markers of what threads I've posted in.

I guess what I'm trying to communicate here is that we have like 20+ forums, and if you only post in the lounge, you're really not seeing everything we have to offer, and you're limiting the number of people who see your posts as well. New users don't go to the lounge when they want to discuss games or iPods or whatever. They'll go to the appropriate forum. But at the moment we seem to have our most prolific posters spending all of their time in the lounge, so it looks like many of the other forums are dead. Actually, we have a lot of good discussion going on, but it's hidden in the lounge where only the regulars see it. It's great that you've got a community going there, but I can't help but think it would be best for the forum in general if it weren't so segregated.
It wasn't my idea to put console gaming in a separate forum, but I do think it was a good one, if people would actually use it. Using your control panel lets you see all posts in all forums that you've contributed to, so it's not like you have to be checking the gaming forum all the time to see if there are any new posts.

Same here, I do buzz around different forums though, not just the lounge. Its easier to look at the yellow or green dots than it is to p*** about with control panels and subscribed threads (never used them, ever.)

You're acting like it's somehow *more* work to use the control panel, but nothing could be further from the truth. You're automatically subscribed to any thread that you post in. So all you have to do is go here (I have it bookmarked) and you're presented with a screen that has every thread you've posted to that has a new reply in it. How on earth is it easier to manually check each forum looking for yellow or green dots?

icruise, I like going through the forums the way I do, its a free world, and to do it this way is my preference, thats all.
Anyway, that 360 keyboard looks interesting, for more reasons than just Xbox 360 based things. There is already at least one app that can use XBox 360 gamepads on a Mac as a game controller. I was wondering if it would be possible to use this keyboard attachment through the Mac as a keyboard, would be great for people with Mac mini as media centres / HTPC's, with game emulators etc on the TV, especially with the Wireless Gaming Receiver instead of using a wired USB pad. I know its hard to tell as the keyboard and the 360 update aren't released yet, but it got me thinking anyway.
PS - I've tried using that driver with my wireless 360 pad and a Play and Charge USB cable, it doesn't work. I thought the pad may have switched to USB when the P & C cable was attached, but it must still use the wireless connection.

I'd guess it goes for $1500 or more.
Stupid. I'd rather just wait for 2 weeks if I were planning on getting an Elite.

I don't use the control panel, even though it's good for other people.
I don't visit many other forums 95% of the time. I stick to the Lounge, which is the reason I visit MacNN so often.
I didn't see the need for 2 threads to be moved. It felt like one or two people got annoyed with the threads being near the top of the Lounge on a consistent basis, and decided to move them.
[EDIT] I take what I said earlier back. I sound like I'm whining, so it must be whining. I have removed this entire post and replaced it with the above.

Someone has to be ridiculously impatient to hock up that much change, instead of waiting until the 29th of this month.

Walmart and Target, specifically. But it looks like you may not be able to purchase them at Walmart anymore, as they're ringing up at the registers as errors.

Almost certainly fake, and probably by the time the guy gets it sorted out, nobody will be willing to pay more than retail for it.

Walmart has blocked the sale of them, though. It appears Kmart is selling them early at the moment, but no idea if that will last.

Really? I saw them sitting in the case but I didn't try to buy one.

If you try to purchase one the register will ring up as "DO NOT SELL." Managers are being told about $10,000 fines if they sell one (which is a load of crap, but that's what some are claiming).

Id love to get a 360 but think i'll hold off on the Elite until the dust settles and I can see if it has the same flaws as the other 360's ie Loud, Prone to heat issues, many unreliable units.
Also want to see if they will release a HDDVD in black or will i be stuck with a different color drive to the console (which would suck).
I just bought a Wii and that is keeping me occupied. What a well thought out little machine

Sold for $5,100......
Now if these were "fake" bids, but as far as eBay are concerned the item has sold, then the seller now has fees in the region of $95.00

I had to deal with a buyer who bid and refused to pay for my PowerBook. He pushed the price up by bidding $300 more than a serious bidder, and then never payed. There are far too many jerks on eBay.

Engadget has done a short review of the Xbox 360 Elite system, as compared to the old Premium system. In short, it seems like there really no advantage to "upgrading" from one of the older systems. It's still noisy, still gets hot, and they couldn't tell any difference between the graphics using HDMI and component. Rather underwhelming, really.
