No, it clumps two games into one which really isn't the right thing to do, is it?

I'm not hip to all the details of Pokemon releases, but from what I understand the two are basically the same game with only minor variations - just like all Pokemon releases have been. I don't see the problem with counting them together, but if you do whatever. It's not that big of a deal.
The main point is that the DS software sold almost double the PSP software - so regardless of whether or not the DS or PSP had the top title the DS is still beating the PSP in sales.
/remember, not a Nintendo fanboy

Man you really need to chill out about all this. I was going off of one website, and like I said it doesn't even matter. The DS software outsold the PSP software by almost double, there's no need to argue over whether or not to include two titles together.
And btw, unless your kids can read Japanese, they don't have the games. They just came out this week in Japan.

What's funny is that I quoted a web site that split the two titles up separately and you know what? That's the right thing to do.
The DS software DID NOT outsell PSP software by "almost double". That's how Nintendo spins it. If you look at the chart I posted, you'll see that not only did the two titles NOT sell the same number together, but they sold LESS than FF VII: CC.
And I means that my kids have similar DS titles where you have to buy separate titles. (eg: Nintendogs, Diamond and Pearl, etc.)
I also love how Nintendo spins the Nintendogs numbers. Three separate games but they'll lump it as "one title".
You fell for it. I didn't.

My point still stands. Lumping two games into one isn't the right way to do things.

I'll reiterate:
1. [PSP] Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - 487,000 / NEW
2. [NDS] Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Toki no Tankentai - 300,000 / NEW
3. [NDS] Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Yami no Tankentai - 269,000 / NEW
Note how one sold 30,000 LESS than the other.

Oh my freaking god get over it. So you have a site that separates them and I have a site that lumps them together - so freaking what? It's obvious that they are two different UPCs and that they are sold separately, the point is that they're essentially the same game with a couple of minor changes. That's how Pokemon games are released.
If you don't want to lump them together that's fine, the DS software sales still trounced the PSP software sales.

Well, you believe what you want.
If the same chart lumps all of Final Fantasy XIII's separate titles as one game, I wonder if the Nintendo fanboys will cry about that. It would be interesting.

By "they" you mean Nintendo? Or VGChartz? Because the data I had did not come from Nintendo.
Frankly I don't see it as too odd since they are basically the same game. But I can see an argument for separating them out as well. In all honesty I don't see what the big deal is.

Basically, Nintendo makes two slightly different Pokemon games each time, knowing that the hardcore people who have to "catch them all" will buy them both. They make more doing this than if they only released one game. I don't know how much more. I'm guessing 10%-20%, but it might be more. So I would say that a single Pokemon game instead of the two that they recently released would around or just under a million copies. I don't think that really affects anything, though, and it doesn't make a PSP game selling nearly half a million copies any less impressive.

That's my point. Nintendo fanboys want to show that the PSP got "trounced" by marketing, not actual number of individual titles. In the meantime, FF VII: CC sold half a million. That's damn impressive.

EDIT: I still don't know where your question comes from because without looking up numbers I'm 120% sure that Pokemon IS one of, if not THE top selling game for the DS.
But you still didn't answer my question.

Again, I ask: if Nintendo put out only ONE Pokemon title instead of two and called it "one", would that title have sold the same number of copies?

You're not addressing the question. While Pokemon is the top seller for the week, it is certainly not a giagantic blockbuster on the DS. Games like Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart, those have been huge blockbusters.
So congrats on Final Fantasy selling 500k in a week. If it makes PSP owners feel better about themselves, great. But do you seriously expect us to be impressed? I mean c'mon, this isn't 2001, Pokemon is not as big a seller as it used to be.

List of best-selling video games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As of July 25, 2007:
Nintendogs (14.79 million)[54]
New Super Mario Bros. (10.52 million)[54]
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (10 million)[61]
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (8.61 million)[54]
Animal Crossing: Wild World (8.01 million)[54]
Mario Kart DS (7.83 million)[54]
Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day (5.53 million)[54]
Super Mario 64 DS (4.97 million)[54]
Big Brain Academy (3.73 million)[54]
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (3.08 million)[54]
English Training: Have Fun Improving Your Skills! (2.86 million)[54]
Super Mario 64 DS sold HALF of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. A double title again, I remind you.
Now, if you split Diamond and Pearl into two, then they sold as many as Super Mario 64 DS.
Huh.

Didn't you just destroy your own point by just showing just how much DS titles sell?
Heck, I'd be embarrassed that even English Training, no matter how long it's been on the market, has outsold Final Fantasy for the PSP.

Nice to see you use an unbalanced argument to show how much of a fanboy you are. How long has English Training been out? Since Jan, 2006.
Anything else you want to compare? How about Atari 800's vs. Playstation 2's?
By the way: Only 2.1 million copies of English Training for Adults sold, and that took 86 weeks. It should take Crisis Core a lot less than that to beat it.
EDIT: Video Game Chartz - Nintendo - Sony - Microsoft -
^^ Source, which jives with the 2.86m above. Still, the point stands. I put .hack in there just to get numbers.

Gamasutra - Final Fantasy And Pokemon Dominate In Japanese Charts
" Combined sales of what will be known in the West as Nintendo's Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 for DS made the game the best selling title of the week, with 569,000 combined unit sales, with the total, as usual, split between two separate versions.
Ultimately the best selling single SKU of the week was Square Enix’s Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for PSP, with 487,000 units - the final, and most successful, part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series. Along with Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, the game has proven once again that PSP titles can sell in significant numbers."

If Starman really wanted to compare against the heavy hitters on the DS, he should look at the first week launch numbers of other DS games.
And also, as you've already pointed out, total sales for the DS dominated the PSP.

Dude, can you not read??? TOTAL software sales for the DS outsold TOTAL software sales for the PSP by almost double.
That's not Nintendo marketing, that's a fact.

Console - Week - Total
NDS - 937,366 - 78,498,559
PSP - 566,555 - 12,537,602
PS2 - 96,717 - 121,510,055
Wii - 79,388 - 9,323,137
PS3 - 22,322 - 2,049,886
X360 - 4,170 - 1,575,336
GC - 174 - 21,331,780
GBA - 102 - 47,307,695
So yes, the PSP is definitely doing well as of recently, but I'd hardly call it dominating.

That depends on if you fall for Sony's marketing. You obviously do.
