Interesting unit of measurement with those quarters. But everyone's wondering how much it can hold in terms of Library of Congresses, floppy disks, and how much it weighs in VW Bugs.

Could the 4g fit on the 3g dock? I know there's extra room, but the connector is the same, right?

What's it like when you speed up audiobooks? Work as advertised?

EDIT - nvm, see them now

thanks a lot

can you lay them on top each other and get a side view? or side by side? sounds silly but that'd be nice if you can.

oh yeah .. can u compare the height and width of the new and old ipod, instead of just the thickness ... saw that picture floating on the web showing the new ipod as shorter and less wide. the one where the 4g is sandwiched between the 3g and mini. i just wanted to see that rumor dispelled =) thanks again for the pictures

audiobooks, i don't own any, so i can't say, sorry. maybe i'll buy one for a my upcoming flight, and report back.

3g dock, as far as i can see, the connectors are the same. i plugged my 3g into the dock and it made that "connected to the dock noise" then i put the 4g in and it did not make any noise. to tell you the truth, i am a bit afraid to plug it into my powerbook and then put the 4g in the dock. sorry, i am sure someone else out there will be happy to do it.

^ 4g 20gig completely in 3g 15gig dock. no connected noise, and lots of space.

Lancer409, besides the width there is no size difference between the two ipods.

i found a new feature.

if you unplug your headphones while the ipod is playing, after about a second it pauses itself. i tested this on my 3g and it does not do that.

unfortunately, when you plug your headphones back in, it does not resume, that would have been cool.

I kind of thought the dock connector might be an issue.

If you look at the accessories page at the Apple store there are some things that are listed as no working with the 4G ipods that seemed like they should. An example id the Belkin device to transfer the photos off a digital camera to an ipod. If the connector was exactly the same it wouldn't matter but it looks as though they may have changed a few pinouts in the connecter itself.

That would explain why a couple of items can work between teh two but most can't.

Hmmm, interesting. I have no problems with my 3G, and I am not going to upgrade, but it is interesting the subtle changes that are starting to come out. I like the new one but i'll wait unitl the 5G comes out and see if that is enough of a change for me to upgrade.
