Just so we're clear, you realize that's the "rock and roll" sign, right?

Maybe they meant to do the "love you" sign.

I also heard it could be the new sign for "stop crying you weenie liberals".

that is the commonly used (in Texas anyhow) "hook 'em horns" sign used by Texas Longhorn football fans.

The photos were made when the Longhorn marching band went by the Inaugural parade viewing platform and again later at one of the balls when the band again made an appearance.

The sign is sometimes used by "evil" heavy metal bands, but it means "devil".

Bush is always mispronouncing words. Maybe he's mispronouncing whatever sign it is he's trying to make.

Good call. Or maybe the whole family is into devil worship.

Jenna's a Longhorn, isn't she?

That's where it came from, but it trickled down to the less hardcore acts and has reached the point where it's used by well-meaning "punk rock" teenies all over the States just to mean "rock and roll."

No no no... it can't be "rock and roll' because that's not EVIL enough... and we all know Bush is evil... so it must be the sign of the devil.

It's also worth noting that it's very similar to the American Sign Language for "I Love You" (though it's not quite right; the thumb should be extended at a right angle to the index finger, not curled in). It's entirely possible that Bush is extending his linguistics-mangling talents beyond English.

Maybe it's cool to make this sign now in American rock culture, but even there everybody knows where it comes from and what it means. Bush and his PR consultants must have been fully aware what message he is sending to the world when he makes that sign.

Are you aware that is considered highly offensive in some cultures? Same with using your index finger to point.. Same with the "OK" gesture, and same with waving with an open hand.

These things aren't "global" or "universal".

Let's see. To my knowledge...

Number of people who actually use that sign to refer to Satan: 0

Number of people who use it to mean "rock 'n' roll": Everybody who uses the sign

Taking it as the sign of the devil is like taking the declaration "I'm gay" to mean "I'm joyous." I'd say Bush is perfectly justified in using the sign to mean what it ALWAYS MEANS nowadays. No offense, but reading it as a demonic sign is just odd.

Exempli gratia:

The Ruda-couple. Also known as "Satan's Murderers"

This sign means "devil" to everybody. That includes "rock" bands that make it to look "cool".

So obviously he was referring to the Texas Longhorns here. Case closed.

Hold on. So this lady has an inverted cross shaved into her forehead and way too much goth makeup, and she claims to be in league with Satan, and you take her seriously? Any real Satanist would laugh in their faces. At least the husband doesn't do the whole my-parents-made-me-go-to-church-once-too-often look, but these two are so completely out of their minds that you can't honestly look at them as examples of anything, except perhaps complete whackjobs.

Not to any real Satanist, it doesn't, except perhaps as a cultural footnote not even worth caring about. And it doesn't mean that to anyone who hasn't been exposed to this kiddie Satanism-wannabe stuff either.

OK, it definitely means that to them; I won't deny that. The "cool" angle goes back to the whole pissing-off-your-parents thing, which is what the kiddie pseudo-Satanism is all about.

Well, they are a murderer-couple, so no, that doesn't fall under the definition of "kiddie-satanism" for me.

Ummmmm that's not her forehead. That would be a SIDE of her head.

But yes, Bush was waving the Hook Em Horns hand signal.

Personally I prefer this one

WOW That was bigger than I thought
