I ordered a BTO 12" (Superdrive, 100GB hard drive, and 768MB RAM) on Monday morning at 6:30 AM Pacific time. I just received a shipment notification at 3:00 AM Tuesday morning. So they're getting these out pretty fast.

I didn't pay for fast shipping. I just took the standard free shipping. It's being shipped via UPS from Shanghai China.

Mine has shipped today as well. But has anybody noticed this?

PBG4 12.1"/768/100/SD/AEX/LL
Z0BB07BSS

768MB DDR333 RAM - 2 DIMMs
065-5384

100GB Ultra ATA Drive@5400rpm
065-5626

SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
065-5471

Country Kit/Airport Extreme
065-5392

BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
065-5393

Look at the last one. BkLit Keyboard? I thought backlit keyboards were only available on the 15 and 17" Is there something behind this we don't know about? (which brings a good point of why ISN'T it available across the entire line)

Mine says Backlit Keyboard too. I'm sure it's a mistake. But when the machine arrives without the backlight, we could have some fun with Apple customer support.

hehe You're like me... you registered to make this your first post. hehe Yeah, it's a nice idea... I don't know why they haven't implemented it across the entire product line.

I think the keyboards are the same, but the 17 and 15 actually have the lights below to light up the keys.

BTW, what was your original ship date quoted from Apple? My 15 says 2/7, but it would be great if it moved up a few days.

Thanks!

Just wanted to give the 15"ers an update.

I ordered a 15" 1.67 128m VRAM on 01/31/05 05:51 AM PST and it was shipped this AM from Shanghai. So it looks like they've got a pretty fast turnaround.

Thanks. Mine has an estimated ship date of 2/3/05 so I'm hoping it will ship sooner. It's a 17" though..

Great news! Mine was ordered 45 mins after yours! Same Config. (but with the 100GB HD too) It would be nice to have it early next week!

Why do we pay tax on something that is shipping from China? I realise Apple is instated in every state, however, I'm not getting it from Texas, therefore why should I pay a tax?

You pay tax based on where you live or shop, not on where the products you purchase are manufactured.
