I've got a old iPhone I think I want to sell on ebay, but I'm a little confused by what's going on there. I've sold a bunch of stuff there before, and it's usually pretty easy to look at the completed auctions to get a sense of what your stuff is worth on ebay. For iphones though, it's all over the map. There are some auctions that ended at reasonable prices ($200-$500), but some others have ended crazy expensive ($1000+). Anyone know why this is? Is this an item that's likely to have scammers trying to pull something? Any best way to get the most for it?

You're better off selling it to a friend, or gifting it, or, possibly, selling it locally via Craigslist.

Nonsense. I've sold 2 iPhones on eBay with good results. I sold my original iPhone for 300 with a non-working speaker and I sold my roommates iPhone 3G for over 300 and it had a cracked screen. I guess it's just luck of the draw.

Nah, eBay for phones is PITA.

I had some idiots bid it up, and then ask for shipment to overseas, although I explicitly excluded that in my auction.

Had to start all over again and deal with the idiot.

It's not worth it.

There's plenty of sense in my statement. You're a lot less likely to get scammed selling it in person, especially if it's to someone you know.

It's unlocked, you can just put your sim in and it's good to go.
