Ok, so I've been doing a lot of reading and I have not been able to get a good feeling about what I should do. Do I sit on 10.2.7 for a while longer or do the software update to 10.2.8?
Any problems with the Rev A 17" Powerbooks and upgrading to 10.2.8?

No problems with the new 10.2.8. Install away. Or you can just wait seven more days until Panther.

How do you suggest that I do the update... Download it off Apple's web site or just do it through "Software Update?"
I'm just really leary because I didn't 10.2.5 and got crap loads of kernal panics. Plus, I am waiting for Panther, but I'm waiting till it's offered through my university so I can get it cheaply.

Most of the folks having problems with 2.8 (including me) have had them with software update.
The others who have used the combo download seem to have the best luck.

On my PB17 rev A, the update killed sound and I have a mute PB. I'm just going to go to 10.3, and mine appears to be an unusual problem, so I would not be too concerned trying 10.2.8 on a different PB17,

Works fine here, but oh well, only going to have this until the 24th when I will do a clean install of Panther.

Thought I would let everyone know that I took my 17" up to 10.2.8 via Software Update.
No problems and all seems well. Seem to be getting some better performance out of my machine. Very happy about that. Now I just need to invest in some DVD's to do some heavy backing up to prepare for Panther.

I had some Print Center problems with 10.2.8 from Software Update. I ran the 10.2 8 COMBO update from Apple's web site and all my problems went away. If things get screwy, try the COMBO updater before you reinstall or go through other mental gymnastics trying to fix stubborn problems.
