OK, I'm having a personal dilemma. I currently drive a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo (weather permitting, of course). The car has been great fun as you can imagine. Only 42,000 miles believe it or not. Immaculate body & interior. Goes like the proverbial bat out of hell. Phone-dial rims. Black w/ tan leather interior. Engine chipped for more HP (no idea what BHP it can produce other than "lots!").

My issue is this... the car is nickel and diming me to death. Repairs/parts on this thing are very expensive, and I don't have the time nor skill to do much of it myself. A few major things have been done, and countless little things.

Yesterday I drove an Acura RSX Type-S. 6-speed manual. 200HP. That's a fun little car! Feels light and responsive - light clutch, light, smooth shifter - but still feels very stuck-to-the-road. Great stereo for a factory unit. Obviously highly rated by all the car magazines. I used to drive a '94 Acura Integra GS-R (sold it in '99), so the RSX feels familiar.

So.... What to do?

Keep the Porsche - beginning to feel like a money-pit but still a kick-ass car.
OR
Sell it and buy the RSX Type-S - excellent performance, long warranty (read: no huge repair bills), legendary Honda reliability, but that little worry I'm trading a "real" car for a rice-mobile.

Thoughts?? I need your help.

only problem is you're going to be going from a rear wheel drive car to a front wheel drive car, it's just not the same. i made the same change and enjoy my new car, but i miss RWD a lot. But I don't live where there's any real snow or ice, either.

Sell it - it's called "Hausfrauenporsche" for a reason.

This kind of advice is difficult to give without additional information:

Please post pix of your penis, your girlfriend, and your swimming pool.

Maybe I can help.

You have a budget for this? If you want a honda - check out the S2000. I hear its one of the nicest handling cars out there for that price.
I have a buddy who has had a M3, NSX, M-Coupe, and the S2K. He said the S2K was the most fun to drive (I hear they did "soften" the new ones though for a smoother ride).

Sell the damn 944 already, that Honda is much better. Altough equally ugly Parts will be cheaper probably and it's more reliable. But the rice-factor is quite high on a Honda . Maybe you should look into a newer 911 ?

I'll pass on the penis and the pool, but I'd like to see a pic of his girlfriend.

Sell your Porsche and get back enough to get a used S2000 (or pop for the new one for $34K). Or look around for a early 94ish NSX. Both should be around mid 20s. And save your nickels and dimes for mods.
I, ASIMO.

I don't think my wife would like me posting pictures of my girlfriend
And since we're limited to 500ish pixels wide for an inline image, there isn't enough room to post a picture of my penis, either.
However, if you really want to see my swimming pool...

Seriously though, I'm not too interested in selling one high-maintenance car for another (one poster suggested a newer 911). In addition, I do not have an unlimited budget. A Porsche 944T, if you check, isn't a terribly expensive car these days. Cheaper, actually, than the Acura RSX. A fully loaded RSX type-S is only $23.5K. Not much really for a car these days. A newish 911 is way out of my price range.

BTW, the "A-Spec" package on the RSX is way to "Fast and the Furious" for me, so don't think that's what I'm looking for... I'm a 35 y.o. father of three. Wife drives a Honda Pilot. We live in the 'burbs. When the Porsche is in storage, I drive an Audi A6 Quatro. I'm just looking for something sporty and reasonable - not to reenact a scene from "Gone in 60 Seconds."

S2000. Yuk, awful to drive... you just dont feel involved with proceedings.

I would sell the 944. They can be real money pits when they get older.

If you weren't in the States, I would advise you to buy a TVR without even thinking about it!

No.
You sound like a kid in a candy store asking the other kids outside (with their noses pressed to window) how many pounds of Swedish Fish you should buy for yourself.
Fine. Mods, lock the thread please.
Apparently asking for car advice is offensive to people.

Y'know, I'm not asking which $100,000 car to buy. I'm asking about cars that cost less than a V6 Honda Accord, man.

My lease on the Audi A6 is soon up. I could keep the old Porsche and lease another car for the winter months, or (my wife's preference) buy one car I can drive year-round.
I'm just asking for advice/suggestions.
Hell, people ask for advice here before dropping $4,000 (!) for a computer. I'm asking advice about buying an average-priced car. Geez.

What about a Corvette or a Mustang? Cheaper to repair than a Porsche and you'll keep a "real" car.

Nigga please, on a forum full of people owning $250-$500 iPods and $1000-$5000 Macs you're not going to get -anywhere- with the "rubbing it in the face of the po folks" act.

If you want to stay with a sports car, I'd go with the Nissan 350Z.

I also personally like the Infinity FX.

I also like the Porsche Cayenne.

Thanks for the suggestions Waxcrash. If I'm going to drive one automobile, however, it needs to be (at least) front-wheel drive (rules out the Nissan). Michigan winters 'n all...

Edit: and budget is about $25,000. I suspect I wont find a Cayenne for less than that

I concur. 200 HP @ $25K or something in a car that small? Yikes. Went out and test drove one with my dad. Definitely a fun car.

In my opinion, go out there and test drive as many cars as you can of all varieties. It's fun and you'll really get a sense of what each car has to offer. Plus, rolling on to the lot in a Porsche will get you some snappy service and they'll most likely let you test drive anything on the lot. Doesn't quite work as well when you're 19 and roll up in a Civic that's been beat to death by your sister.

Never fan of the 944 or 924

The Beetle turbo (or the cabrio), also the Mini Cooper may be good options...

I prefer the styling of the TL which I may be getting once I ditch my Durango:

But it's a bit more pricey, 35k loaded.
